Hi i'm about to have underfloor heating installed (electric), I am now beginning to have doubts as a lot of people said it is crap, expensive and does not warm the room up only the tiles, would be grateful of any views on this especially those who already have it, the system i am about to have is by Warmup.

yes it is expensive

what room are you putting it in?

have you got a concrete floor?

how much insulation is underneath?

are you likely to be at home all day, or just in the evenings?

have you got cheap night electricity?

what size is the room; how big are the windows; how many kW of heat is it supplying?

It will be going into the bathroom

Room size is 6ft by 7ft

concrete floor however i have 6mm insulation boards ontop of this

home in the evenings

2 small windows

i think its 240 output

in a bathroom, they make the floor pleasant and dry underfoot.

240W will not warm the room enough, you need a rad as well.

It will cost you about 3p an hour to run which is not much. But have a timer and a thermostat as you don't want it running all day and all night.

Not sure about the electrical version but a wet system is expensive to lay out, additional motorised valves, thermostatic blender too and they dont last forever

Hi,

I installed Warm Up underfloor heating last year in my new conservatory (12 x 14) and have just had my first winter with it. It is fantastic, don't know about the cost yet but I have had it on low all Winter and it is great to walk out there not only to feel the heat under bare feet but a constant temperature in the room. Wish I had installed it in my bathroom before I laid the tiles!

I also installed a Warm Up system under my limestone flagstones in my kitchen and dining room.

Like you I was worried about efficiency and cost but having taken their advice and fitted insulation board underneath the cabling the rooms heat up within about an hour and a half (flagstones are 1" thick).

I also installed a digital programmer to make sure the system is used efficiently.

There is no doubt that the system warms the room in addition to the tiles and in my case provides a nice warm stone floor and also tops up the central heating if its really cold.
