Price for Papering A Room?

Sorry if moneytalk is off topic, but without an FAQ or sticky threads, and despite searching, I'm clueless as to what's a fair price for a small job my old mum's asked me to arrange.

A living room about 12 foot square, ceiling height 8foot6 , good no-nicotine silk emulsion walls.

One huge (non-bay) window, two big double doorways taking up a lot of wall.

The paper is textured but has no matching pattern. I suppose it counts as blown vinyl - though it doesn't look plasticky and says it's paintable.

BTW, if location location matters, Lancashire prices, rather than London.

One last thought. Should you expect a decorator to remove the radiator to paper behind, or is that the householder's job?

I have just come on to find out the same thing lol.

Our room is 14ft square (with a porch) and one bigish window. Ceiling is 10ft high and the chimney breast has arches either side. I have just been quoted £190 to paper it and he will remove the radiator and provide the paste. This is around the Wigan area.

Did a job last year, where a decorator had removed the rad in the lounge and allowed the black gunge to mark the carpet badly.
Customer sued him for new carpet/ underlay ..twas about £900, and the price of a plumber to replace the rad. I got a call to finish the decorating.

I've had disasters with rads but fortunately I've always been able to fix.

Very risky.

100%agree...I wouldnt take another rad off..ever...whats the point, just to do the customer a favour, you cause a leak, airlock, snap something etc you could end up laying out more money than the job was worth to get it put straight.

Ok back to the question...

If you want to find out a fair price the easiest way to to ask decorators to price it for you...

Dont go by what we say then compare the decorators price..he can see the job, we cant, and anyone who prices over the phone its either a mug or a cowboy.

Hmm... Reading that for the eighth time, I've twigged it must be an admonition for not returning to say thankyou for your replies.

I prowl many web forums on many subjects, and they must all be cold hearted caverns of discourtesy. Cos thankyou's there are a rarity and I've never seen anyone chided for failing to show gratitude.

The last time that happened I was six! And my Auntie's rock cakes were as deserving of praise as a house full of artex.

I prefer the rock cake mix to the baked version..so send half a pound of it for us to share c/o [email protected]

Couldnt get an angle on the tone of your last post (too many words I havn't heard of)..but threads on other sites are other sites problems...whatever they deem acceptable internet protocol doesnt detract from common courtesy in the real world...

PS....no nutmeg in the mix either, just flour water bit of salt, marg, and good quality raisen..all though I prefer sultanas (and no Tesco value muck either!!!)
