Dodgy workmanship, Bad installs, Bodge jobs. More Pictures

Just been browsing some of the pictures posted in this section of the forum and was wondering if anyone knew of any other websites or places i could browse pictures of bad workmanship, Installs, Bodge jobs ect.

I find it fascinating looking at this sort of stuff in disbelief and amazement that some people actually expect to get paid after doing such a bad job and in some cases put peoples lives and property at risk.

I can remember whilst doing my gas training, There was a pile of magazines in the classroom. I cant remember the name of the mag but it had a section showing photographs of Riddor reportable Gas installations. Me and a few of the lads would laugh our socks off at what some people would call a job well done.

I'm new to the forum and just learning how it works. If it's allowed you could possibly post some pics or links in this thread, If you have any.

Thanks for those RF Lighting.

I didn't understand a few of them but there's obviously a fault there that you and your colleagues in your trade can identify. Most of them, Anyone can spot the disaster waiting to happen.

It's scary to know whats out there, The fuse board fire is frightening.

And the messy switchroom wall

Not the worst wiring disaster that's on the site but I found a strange set up in the house I'm currently renting. It appears that a ceiling rose is being used as a junction box, between the floors. This might explain why there's a fault with the light in the room below!

How not to wire a shower:-

Ring main with cooker box for double socket. Note the 2 core 1.5mm 6242Y cable spurred off.



Thos is where the 2 core 1.5mm cable was connected to a 3 core 1.5mm cable and buried in plaster without protection.



3 core where the shower was conncted. Apparently it worked - once, and for a very short time. We had to rewire the house!



This one isn't from the same job, but certainly shows how not to isolate the shower.

ive seen some bodges in my time but that switch IN the cubicle takes the micheal just a bit....

igot somewhere a picture of the lights which used to be in my bathroom before I removed them and fitted proper water sealed halogen downlighters into the ceiling...

it was a cieling rose like you would get a pendand from then two wires at 45 degrees about a foot long going straight into theback of one of those twin spotlight bars...

pretty eh !!!!

QUALITY!!

Went round to my brothers flat last year, because his electric shower had stopped working. The shower switch in the cupboard outside the bathroom needed replacing.

What was really scary was the fact that the shower wasn't earthed. +, N and Earth wires went into the supply side of the switch, but only the + and N wires were connected to the load side!! He had been using the shower for 6 years.

should add if I stood in the shower you could reach these with ease (not that I ever tried with the shower ON)

Heres another one where i had an empy house to check out, the previous tentant stripped out the elec meter and taped the main feed together with the ring, lights hot water and shower, and same with the neutrals, all just taped together.

Surprise surprise the was also a small canabis farm in the bedroom

lol... had a similiar one. a mate was renting his flat out and decided an insepction was in order as the lad living there had been there a while. on checking the meter cupboard he found a piece of aerial coax wedged between the centre tails of the electric meter.. yes I said aerial coax, and only the centre strand at that

My Electrical fault I just found on my mums places
Post "Tradesman" making a right Fudge up of a bathroom ( as an DIYer i was shocked by the poor standard)
The guy pulled out Washing m/c and failed to refitted drain hose resulting in flooded kitchen.
Q call from mum stating downstairs ring main wont reset.
These where done prior to her moving in

Straight away found earth neutral short. Sod law wiring disappears under a concrete floor, quick prod show this will soon lift.
Fault 1 Ring main run under kitchen dining room door way with 2 junction boxes that you would use in nice dry places not buried in the dirt/concrete But they where covered in an Argos bag lol.
Found the fault was in a wire that ran from here to a plug in the dining room.
Time running out so disconnect the Faulty wire changed the RCD and left ( no Ring main but full working socket)

Popped round to pull through a new wire, But still trying to work out how a wire failed. As the wire is in trunking!! nice an easy line on end and pull. All set up and promptly pulled 2ft of wire and it went solid
tried the other end solid
No other option but to dig out the solid'ish floor, So poor the 2lb hammer ate through it.
After removing all the concrete and damp proof membrane, then 3" damp dirt/rubble.
I found the cause of the problems a lighting junction box buried in the dirt now full of sand and water. All for the sake of a 3m length of twin and earth.

All now replaced with water proof stuff etc just making to make good now.

The other thing found whilst taking off socket looked in one socket "why 2 lives ohhhh he used the red casing to cover the earth"

OMFG, they are too funny......
