Consider a service a safety check. Obviously, there are tens of boiler makers and hundreds of types and models, i can only give you an indication of what will take place as the RGI will need to follow manufacturers instructions (check these to detail what will be done with your specific boiler).

Boiler will be checked visually, gas supply checked for integrity, seals checked. flue gases may be analysed to ensure correct burn mix, safety features checked, burners may be cleaned, flue checked, condensate traps removed and cleaned. It may produce a list of works that will need to be done and a gas safety cert produced. Others may highlight other areas

Costs vary but between say 50-100 pounds depending on type and area of country (parts/replacement time are not part of a service at least for me, although negotiation will reduce costs of additional work)

thanks,

I had checked the paperwork for it a while ago, but its still lost with my solicitors so thats why i posted.

I've had other 'proffesionals' tell me that 'X' equipment wasn't safe and would require 'Y' part costing 'Z' amount untill i threw them out and got it re-checked - perfectly safe.

So i always try to watch what there doing and check up before hand.

what boiler do you have

Corgiman, with all due respect to you, please read the post again and ask yourself what *****ng difference does it make.

Actually Captian Rudeness I did read the question and saw that there was no name of a boiler in it.

Forgive me for wanting to give the punter an in depth andf relevent answer to his question rather than waste his and our time with generallities

I have also asked myself what difference it makes and answer my self "well a shyte load" as the punter could have an old Vulcan or and brand feckin new WB greenstar. Which would not require the same type of thing in a SERVICE.

I will now climb down orf my high horse and suggest that you do the same.

:)

PS Also I was just ****ing interested

:)

You've totally got the wrong end of the stick, which is a shame as for someone with your experience of punter's questions I thought you'd get the joke, but never mind.

Nope still dont get the joke

the pumter asked for a price and what needed doing and I asked what boiler?

After 25 odd years doing this type o thing it seems like a reasonable question?

What am I missing

Also my reply was made with my tongue frimly in me cheek as always

:)

and I am still #######ng interested

:)

Forget it. I take it all back.

With BG offering a service for £49 until mid August (they must be very quiet) it would be tempting to get them to do all our servicing work and trouser the difference!

If the independents got together we could all earn a good living staying at home.

nice idea, but what about all the callbacks

Thanks for all the replies, sorry for my absence at least it has given me plenty to read! :)

Will get boiler type written down when my shift finally ends, wouldn't mind getting some feedback on it as i have so little details apart from what written on the case.

I hadn't seen BGs offer, but seems tempting.
I try to use local where I can get references but still new to the area.

a strange time for BG to be introducing this service. we are so far behind in servicing its ridiculous.
