Solar lights

Breezer - do you still have details of that website that does 'good' solar lights?

In my case, I don't mind how big the solar panel(s) is/are, because I'm going to put it on the roof of my shed (where no one will see them and where hopefully they'll get the most light), then run the cable down the side of it to the lights themselves. Two/three will go into the lawn and another one/two will go inside an arbour and on the back fence. I suppose I just need to make sure they they've got a long enough length of cable supplied from the solar panels to the lights themselves.

If anyone has any recommendations for good ones, please can you let me know? Id be really grateful.

So you want to have solar lights and run cables? thats not what most people want do, not that its a problem just unusual.

These wires presumably they are for the lights? why not put mains cables in instead?


Back to basics

Any solar panel will need to be big enough to charge a battery sufficiently for that battery to run some form of lighting as and when required.

The size of that battery will depend on the amount of "lights it will have to supply and how long those lights will be on for"
The lights i presume will be leds.

The size of the solar panel will need to be big enough to charge the battery, on an overcast day, since anything brighter than overcast is a bonus (this is England)

The bigger the solar panel the more it costs

To reality

But for a resaonable amount of light the solar panels cost a lot of money, and make it a waste of time since mains can often be installed cheaper

now before i give the link, think to your self how much will it cost for one professional high qulaity light?

Blimey that is expensive.

I want solar because it'll be at the very bottom of my garden. I dont suppose you know of any half decent ones for a sensible price? I'm not looking to play floodlit football - just for them to give off a little more grunt than the rubbishy ones I've just thrown away that resembled candles more than lights.

all solar lights from "sheds" are just a gimmick

The only option you have is to make one yourself, some one did and posted it on here.

If i recall it was a solar panel, some electrocnics to regulate the battery charge, and (i yhink an inverter) and an "energy saving lamp"

But the problem of solar panel costs is one you cant do much about.

I just googled and found this

he has even got a 12v 11w "energy saviing lamp" but you are still looking around £100 + battery (and something to keep it in and this is only for one light, and you mentioned 5 lights)
