How to KILL Ivy.

Hi all, need advice on how to KILL :evil: ivy, chemicals preferred. No other shrubs or plants nearby. Thanks.

sodium chlorate is a general plant killer i think.. used for clearing paths and wasteland according to the lable on mine..

that ought to kill it.. but it will still cling to the wall like a scotsman clings to his money...

SBK Brushwood killer diluted with 3 parts of paraffin, is excellent for the job.
 
I agree with cutting the roots. Even SBK is slow to get at those hard waxy leaves

And you will have to cut it off anyway when it is dead.
 
Here's another way. Use Roundup, a glyphosphate systemic herbicide. You spray the leaves and the stuff gets taken down to the roots.

The problem is that ivy tends to have a waxy type of leaft which doesn't absorb the poison well. But if you mix 1 part Roundup to three parts of washing up liquid, the mixture sticks well and the washing liquid helps with absorption.

I use this method a lot. I apply it with a paint brush on individual weeds and even on blades of couch grass.
 
systemic weedkiller will do it no problem with a few applications.
