Loft Ladder Query

Is there any type of ladder (barring electric ladders) that you can close with relative ease from the top? This is for a loft thats being converted into a bedroom, but leaving the ladder down seems impractical since you can't close the hatch while it's in this state.

Can anyone help? My search on the internet has been thus far fruitless

Put simply, you should not have a bedroom without a staircase and thus a room that satisfies strict fire safety rules. It is not safe to sleep/spend reasonable time in a loft with only a hatch and one that is closed at that.

Im not an expert but i imagine that they will probably say something similar.

Hum, the only reason we've had to have the ladder is because stairs would be far too difficult to get into the area, as its pretty small. But thanks for the input.

A loft conversion requires building control and they will not pass it if there is no staircase as it has inadequate means of escape. Stairs can be internal or external but they have to be there. Who has designed teh conversion as they should know this!

People on here will always try to tell you what is right. What i would say is that i would not let my child sleep in a loft conversion without the appropriate stairs and other fire safety mesures.

This is only the beginning, there are many more regulations you should follow for complete piece of mind/building control approval.

I guess you are having difficulty finding a product for your needs because a loft room that you enclose yourself in should have a proper door and not just a loft hatch
