Does anyone know from where I can obtain replacement ceramic valve cartridges for an old Leisure Aquadisc 2 kitchen mixer tap?

I've looked at the ceramic valves at "notjusttaps.co.uk" and the very large selection at "lunns.net/tapspares", but neither appear to offer exact replacement valves for an Aquadisc 2 tap.

Any suggestions as to where to look next would be appreciated as I'd prefer not to have to replace the entire mixer tap.

Thanks muggles but........

from the experience of trying a few of my local plumbers merchants, the implication of your answer seems to be that obtaining ceramic valve cartridges that fit in all respects is a matter of experience or "hope and poke". None of my local merchants had valves that were correctly dimensioned in all respects or were of a known pedigree.

I'm probably being naive, but I would have expected any self respecting manufacturer to specify the spare parts even if they don't manufacture them themselves. After all, if I want a replacement gas valve for a boiler, the parts list will identify it (yes I know the boiler market is more regulated).

As the Aquadisc 2 mixer tap is still being sold, although possibly not still being manufactured, I had hoped that somebody in the trade would tell me that the Aquadisc 2 was fitted with "Blogs123" (or whatever) valves so that I could search for a supplier of same. Is this just a hopeless cause?

Try calling them.

If they do not do it then they will tell you which spares agent does, I seem to remember that if you call them and you have had your tap for more than a year and less than five then they will send them Free of Charge and not ask for a reciept if you know what I mean.

Hi Technotim,

Many thanks for the most useful info.

I've been on the Leisure/Rangemaster web site before but obviously not investigated it thoroughly enough as I've not previously come across the Contacts page for which you've provided the url.

Interestingly, the web site still lists the Aquadisc 2 tap as current. This gives me increased confidence that they should be able to supply, or point me to a source of, the proper ceramic valves for the beast.

I'll follow this up next week.

I sometimes get calls about leaking quarter turn taps, sometimes not very old, but I usually tell them that its not possible to get parts for unbranded taps.

I cannot see that it would be cost effective in most cases to repair an old tap, mostly because of the time spent chasing the parts!

Customers think back to the old days of only two tap washers, ½" and ¾" and the job would cost £10 ! Parking alone in London can be £7 an hour!

Would it be viable to buy for stock one of each spare part?

Quarter turn ceramic tap valves can wear very quickly. The tap doesn't HAVE to be old. It's FAR easier to swap the valves than replace the tap in 99% of cases.

If you are called as a plumber to look at leaking taps, and you go to the customers house look and there is no brand on the tap you really have two choices either you reccomend as Agile says because you are not going to drive around on your hourly rate to merchants who really do not want to stock loads of types of valves, they wants to sell there tap that they stock, if you take the tap apart split down the valve silicone grease the ceramic discs and put back together only for that to might work.
Its hard as you could be wasting you time and the customers money.

But as Chris say's it is easier to swap the valves than the taps.

Why have they not got standard valves!!

It suits me as I sell lots of taps :) Selfish I know.

Agile, ChrisR, and Technotim,

Many thanks for your collective responses that so fully explained the ceramic valve replacement problems as experienced by the trade. As a mere amateur, its no wonder that I was having difficulty in locating new valves for my Aquadisc 2 tap.

The main thing that I've learnt from you all is never to buy a ceramic-valved tap again without first ensuring that spare valves are available and to purchase a pair of these at the outset for future replacement purposes.

Thanks again,
Davros
