Hi,
I have a RCBO I have just fitted in the shed. It more on the end of a extension lead- as the end that powers the shed comes from a socket ( poormans spur) I know this is not the best way.The problem I have is as soon as any thing is pluged into the socket's it protects the thing trips out!

Is there a way to test a RCBO or any ideas why it is tripping out.

Are you sure you have connected the neutral lline to the load side correctly - it has to go to the load side on the RBCO, not to a common neutral terminal to which in incoming feed is connected

How have you wired the RCBO? Have you put the neutral wires to the correct neutral in and out terminals? Does it have a functional earth wire? Is this connected to the CPC of the circuit?
Also don't like the sound of it being wired as a spur!

All sorted---

Aaaaaaaaaaa -- I take it's a common mistake (neutral line) thanks all for the very quick replys.

Just to put Spark123 mind at rest- it's all done in rubber cable in a conduit the only reason it's run as a spur just can not get to the main board.

Hi,

RCBOs go in consumer units, and installing CUs is notifiable.

Did you notify?

Yes, and if you don't have an RCD tester you shouldn't be installing CUs.

No it has a plug on the end ie: the quote poormans spur and the words "It more on the end of a extension lead"
It still qualifies as fixed wiring, therefore it comes within the scope of Part P, therefore you are obliged to make reasonable provision for safety (you haven't), and you were obliged to notify the council (I'm guessing you didn't).

Is Part "P" for residential so is not covered by my shed as it at the back of my unit.....

No, but if it is a place of work the "Electricity at work regulations 1989" do apply.
