How to paint a straight line by skirting and corners - if i use a tape keeps peeling wall off

Ok, I could try this but does it mean that you need 2 pieces of wood then as when one is stained with paint, you dont really want it up against the wall ? 2 pieces of wood, lets say 1.2m long for both or do you swap sides with a single piece of wood ? If the colour is also being changed, do i...

How to paint a straight line by skirting and corners - if i use a tape keeps peeling wall off

Hi All. I am trying to get a nice straight line by door frame corners and the wall, and the technique I hvae always read about is to tape off one side, then paint and remove the tape. This way you will be left with a straight line. I have not been so lucky, I painted the skirting dark grey...

Heatmiser UH8RF and nest wired thermostat or any other wired thermostat

Hi All. I have just wired the Heatmiser UH8RF on the neostat v2 thermostats which are wired, from what I have just been told the UH8RF only works with the wireless thermostats. This brings me to my next question, can I use a nest or hive wired thermostat to control the following. Underfloor...

What to do with crack in the ceiling - now filled but i cant sand it flat

Ooh dear. I'm just looking for the easiest way out. If I were to skim it, will this be done with multifinish and is the idea to loose the non flat area into the rest of the ceiling to create a gentle bump ? What tools /materials will I need ?

What to do with crack in the ceiling - now filled but i cant sand it flat

Can't do that. Will I have to skim the entire ceiling. Quite a size. I'm not confident in doing that.

What to do with crack in the ceiling - now filled but i cant sand it flat

Hello. We have had an extension and major works 2 years ago, got a crack line running across the ceiling, it was about 3 - 4m long, one was 3m long and the other 4m long. I filled it last year and sanded It but I think my filler mixing was bad, the filling doesn't stick and after a few days...

What can i do about this metal plate and rendering options ?

We never thought about this.brilliant idea. Wouldn't planning be required to do this ? And does it matter if nobody else has implemented cladding on the terrace ?

What can i do about this metal plate and rendering options ?

Good points raised here. Not sure what you mean by the engineer who designed it wouldn't have got a penny. The mesh you are referring to, is this the EML mesh or fibreglass mesh ? The walls were so bad that the front elevation wall was detaching away from the part wall, one way to fix this would...

What can i do about this metal plate and rendering options ?

Honestly I really suggested that, then it turned out that if the wall was rebuilt it would also affect the next door in the terrace since they have thesame problem. Secondly we were told that there is a risk of damage to the next doors wall if the front elevation wall of this house was removed.

What can i do about this metal plate and rendering options ?

Mate just doesnt like the look of plates in the front of the house, wants it all hidden at all costs. I guess the reason why the plates aren't so nice looking is because there was an expectation that External wall insulation will be applied, but nobody thought about the bowed wall. I noticed a...

What can i do about this metal plate and rendering options ?

Yes a family friend, but helping out to oversee what is being done and also introduced the engineer who did the calculations etc. In hindsight as you said, adding an additional joist to the existing one might have been a neater way to do it. I thought about the idea of an external wall...

What can i do about this metal plate and rendering options ?

Thats why I showed the diagrams, the joists were too skinny and not in a very good shape, with todays regs one cant get way with such, you will have to use an 8" by 2" or worse case 7" by 2" timber. The existing joists were not so strong to tie to. I couldn't trust the integrity hence why we...

What can i do about this metal plate and rendering options ?

I didn't provide the full picture before posting on her. Attached below is the complete picture of the setup and site conditions. If you look at the joist directions in red, you will notice that they span back to front and not sideways. As such helical ties mentioned above would be difficult to...

What can i do about this metal plate and rendering options ?

Was going to suggest that the red render be hacked off, this would mean the plate will need further adjustment. As it is, the plate is 6mm or so. At least a good 20mm - 30mm render will be required to hide the plates, secondly the wall is bowed out, in the worst places 80mm out. So it looks like...

What can i do about this metal plate and rendering options ?

Ok I think the reason for the random spacing is probably due to objects/obstacles in the way, I seem to recall that the window location is not centred in relation to the room, there were also internal walls and a column in the way. One thing that could have been done was to galvanise the plate...
