Semi-awkward space I need to roof.

Folks, We extended the house into the garage-space a few years ago, all is going well with that. The original house runs perpendicular to the old garage extension, these buildings are now joined by a new corridor that runs across a path that used to separate them. This created a space now...

Clean oil residue from paint work

Folks, I need to prepare my (new & expensive) bike (yes - I know, not a car) for protective stickers. These are clear hardwearing stickers that protect the frame from scraps, bumps and the like. Online video's suggest using 'alcohol wipes' to make absolutely sure that there is no oil residue...

    Smoke Alarm Problem

So I have removed two of the smoke alarms ... and restored power to the rest of them. No problems since. The alarms themselves are about 2yrs old, and have Duracell onboard ... so you'd imagine it wouldn't be the battery. But I will check em anyway. Thanks for the advice. Ray K

Workshop / Study is a bit stuffy

It is wide open ... When I open the door to the next room, and open a window there it helps create a draft which is great. I don't always have the option of opening that door though. Split aircon unit is a possibility alright. Are those expensive to run? Ray K

    Smoke Alarm Problem

Hi folks, We did a huge refurbish of our house about 2 years ago - and moved in just before Covid hit. We ended up with 6 or 7 smoke alarms, all of which are connected. Problem is that they are going off, intermittently for no apparent reason - and when they do, it is LOUD! How do I isolate...

Workshop / Study is a bit stuffy

Hi folks, We did a huge refurbish of our house about 2 years ago - and moved in just before Covid hit. One of the rooms in the house, was a bit of compromise in many ways, was my workspace. Long story made short - I share my workshop / study with the Thermia Air2Water Heat Pump. In this...

    Killing Ants (or thereabouts)

Hi folks, My father has been trying to kill Ants that live in his cobbled drive way for as long as I can remember. They have always been there, longer than me anyway. At certain times of the year they sprout wins and become a real nasty nuisance. My Dad is 80-something and a bit poorly now...

    Buying fencing (kinda)

Thanks everyone - looks like featheredge is definitely what I need, I hadn't come across it before. There appears to be a place about an hour up the motorway that I pass regularly enough that does it. I looked for a closer sawmill in the area, oddly there aren't any ones closer to me than...

    Buying fencing (kinda)

Hi folks, I as over in the local builders yard yesterday, scratching my head about how to cover the walls of the kiddies treehouse I have been building. While I was there, I noticed that the prefabricated fence sections they where selling, used 5mm strips of pressure treated timber, nailing...

    Husqvarna 129LK Combi Trimmer

There are fields to the left, right and behind me, I don't have neighbors on those sides, only cows and deer. Its the Privet Hedging on those sides needs the trim, I can't get at it from my garden. So you are 100% correct, I can probably borrow another long extension lead (in addition to the...

    Husqvarna 129LK Combi Trimmer

Hi folks, I have been trimming my Privet Hedging which had gone fairly wild. I sprung for the Hedge Timmer attachment for my Husqvarna 129LK, which was extortionately priced, originally paying €270-ish for the 129LK Trimmer and recently €300-odd for the HA110 Hedge Trimmer attachment (just an...

    Treehouse attachment fixings

Well look, my garden is full of apple and ash trees, some of which I planed. I am avoiding those, to do no harm. This is a 25-30 yr old fir that self seeded in a corner of my garden. There are 100s just like it on this hill harvested every year - it will be fine.
