    Old boiler replacement

With the rising cost of gas is it worth replacing my 1989 Ideal mexico 2. The boiler has been very reliable having only 2 issues gas valve and pilot light thermo couple in all that time so I'm reluctant to get rid. Everyone I know with a combi has had expensive trouble with there combi's but...

Thanks Woody, yeah was looking at this last night https://www.wickes.co.uk/STS-Construction-Board-1200-x-800-x-12mm/p/225437 is that ok or is there a better alternative ideally 8' x 4'.

    3rd bedroom extension over carport

My 1930's semi 3rd bedroom was extended back in the 70's, the extension has a carport underneath. The underside of the extension floor joists /carport ceiling has what I believe to be asbestos sheet attached with no insulation. What's the modern alternative in this types of installation today, I...

    CH not always firing up

I like to be armed with a bit of knowledge before calling in the professionals as I have been caught out by some unscrupulous tradesmen in the past. My boilers (a Ideal Mexico Super 2 RS60 serviced 2 years ago) pilot light was lit but main burner wasn't firing up despite controls calling for...

Ideal mexico super 2 RS60 issue

My old Ideal Mexico super 2 RS60 has developed an issue where the heating/hot water has become intermittent. I've tested power to the gas valves solenoid which is a steady 248v ac when the controls are calling for heat but the solenoid doesn't seem to have enough pull to suck in the plunger. So...

    Warped cupboard doors

No finish on them yet, I let the wood fully dry out in my loft turning them every couple of days. The door was straight after glue had set and they've been stored in my spare bedroom for a week or so before the were offered up. I've gone a bit more than 6mm and after reading an up added...

    Warped cupboard doors

I recently made some cupboard door's to fit a new airing cupboard frame I also made. On fitting the doors I annoyingly noticed one of them has twisted about 7mm, the other's have remained true. I currently have the door clamped to a bench to try and reverse the bend, is there anymore I can do to...

    Mortice& tenon depth and widths

It's just an airing cupboard at the top of my landing. There is some downward load from the cold water storage tank in the loft space above. that is currently supported by an accro on one side and the wall on the other hence I feel the need for a 70mm post. Just want to make it as strong as...

    Mortice& tenon depth and widths

Any rules of thumb how deep a mortice hole should be. I gather the tenon should be a 1/3 of the width of the timber so on a piece of wood 42mm deep a 14mm tenon. How deep should the mortice hole be. The posts where the mortices will be cut are 70mm square and the tenon timber is 68mm x 42mm. I...

    15mm Hot pipes

Thank's everyone some good points for and against there, but I'm still in 2 minds. A bit more info, system is gravity fed and it's about 10m run to the basin. I'll make sure I buy a mixer tap suitable for gravity fed

    15mm Hot pipes

About to re fit en suite and the current supply to the basin is in 15mm copper, should I change the pipe to 22mm for better flow. The flow and pressure to the single hot tap is ok but I will be fitting a mixer.

Best diy wired alarm system under £200

No worry is not the car, cars insured, the worry is my family if thieves break in to steal the car keys. Car fully alarmed etc security lights, gates on drive, keys now kept in draw. Only lived here a couple of years, nice area, very quite never got round to fitting an alarm hence my questions.

Best diy wired alarm system under £200

I currently have no alarm and have recently bought a nice car so worried about thieves breaking in to steal keys, I currently take them to bed with me but now think thats a bad idea. I just want a good reliable system that doesn't give false alarms apart from that I'm open to suggestions.

Best diy wired alarm system under £200

As the title says really, have read through various posts but no real conclusions apart from wired seems to be the way to go, so recommendations please. The house is a 3 bed semi, front door, side door, rear patio doors so I thought 3 pirs and 3 door contacts to alarm the downstairs would...

    shower diverter valve

I currently have a hudson reed kia mixer valve with a rainfall shower head and would like to add a flexy hose and shower head mainly for easier cleaning of the shower etc. I can access the pipework so my plan was to add a diverter valve in the pipe that runs to the shower head then run a pipe...

My granite breakfast bar is 1.4m long in total and protrudes 300mm on 2 sides from the cupboard underneath the guy that did the measuring up said it didn't need any extra support. Your best bet would be to get in the company thats doing the granite and ask them there advice. Just an idea for...
