    Immersion heater on 32A breaker

I want to wire an immersion heater back in. I have a couple of spare breakers left in the CU- 2x 32A and 1x 40A. I was hoping for a 20A one. Can I use a 32A or do I need to go for a 20A?

    Problem with pressure reducing valve?

Hi, There is a pressure gauge showing a pressue of about 2bar but when the hot water is on in the house it drops below that. What is important for us is that the flow is good again and not just a dribble.

    Problem with pressure reducing valve?

Just a follow up. We have proper hot water pressure again. A new pressure limiting valve is fitted this week. Adjustable this time, but I am sure that does not matter. As I had the old one in the garage and it is servicable I opened it up. Scaled up and rusty inside. I do not think this is...

    Problem with pressure reducing valve?

I had to get the old receipts out. The cylinder was from Newark Copper Cylinder Co. Ltd. I also read through the instructions - to the installer - supplied from Newark for the first time properly. They say that the installer back then should have used a 22mm feed. Even though it has been fitted...

    Problem with pressure reducing valve?

The cylinder and pressure reducing valve together with the 15mm piping is all old since 2001 and fitted in the upstairs bathroom. We are on the 3. or 4. expansion vessel by now. The current one was fitted in July 2021. The pressure drop is a new thing. The cold flow into the house is o.k. The...

    Problem with pressure reducing valve?

Hi, It is an unvented system with a copper rather than stainless steel cylinder. The expansion vessel usedto be white and is now a blue one.

Insulation between 1st and 2nd floor.

Your flat sounds like the equivalent to an extension that we did above a double garage. The garage is not insulated, but pretty draught proof and the boiler is running in there. Even with frost outside the temperature is usually no less than 8°C. The extension room above has plenty of rock wool...

    Mould remedy?

Mould is the result of the combination of heating / insulation, ventilation AND airflow and moisture content. We had problems with mould in a flat roof extension with cavity walls to a solid wall house. The extension contained a kitchen and bathroom. When we did the bathroom up first and then...

    Problem with pressure reducing valve?

Happy New Year, I have a problem with the hot water. Our hot water works via a hot water calinder with inputs from a boiler and a solar panel loop. The cylinder is made of copper and the inflow has a pressure reducing valving with a 2.1 bar rating. It has a 18l expansion vessel connected nad...

2014 ''efficient'' tax exempt Insignia ''eco'' flex getting 35-40 mpg. listed as 63-88 mpg .

Be happy that the car is tax exempt. ALL car manufacturers are lying / fudging fuel consumption numbers. Some more than others. When they test the cars, mirrors, seats, spare wheels, sunroofs have been removed, they role on tiny 155 section tyres - as long as that is legal -, rather than your...

    Transformer "lost" in ceiling

Thanks for the replies. It is done. Found the transformer. My wife - very small hands - was in the ceiling again. The first time she could only fell what I saw with the endoscope. Then we pulled on the affected wires and figured which ones ended in the drill holes through the joists and follwed...

    Transformer "lost" in ceiling

In our shower en-suite two of the 12V halogens have stopped working. 3 others still work. The bulbs are fine. We had this bathroom done about 14 years ago. I remember talking to the electrician about the transformers, but not where he fitted them. The bathroom installer put another plasterboard...

    Pointless Panic ?

This should be a new thread. Priti Ugly is a very sinister character. She added several pages AFTER the bill had passed the commons to outlaw almoat any kind of protest or opposition.

    Pointless Panic ?

It depends what masks we are talking about. Around the time of MERS and SARS a larger mask study was done and they found that FRSMs are not very good at protecting either side - wearer or opposite. FFP2s give protection for the wearer in the mid 90% region and FFP3s protect the wearer up to 99%...

    Expansion vessel jacket

Are there any EV jacket. Goggling I can find plenty of cylinder jackets for large sizes but nothing for an EV of about 20L. Does anyone know of any? Or would I need to do a blue peter job to insulate?

    Cold radiator

Thanks for the explanation of X200 and X400, terryplumb. X400 almost immediately did the trick.

    Cold radiator

The bathroom rad is a spiral tube radiator. It has always been a very fast one. I know about the balancing of radiators and use it where two would be very different to warm up, like beginning of loop and end, not where one does not warm up at all. I will get some x400 and add that as well.

    Cold radiator

Turning off most of the other radiators has worked to get some heat back into the bathroom radiator, although it is dead slow. I have opened up the others gently and still have some heat in there. I put X200 into the system because it was advertised as system descaler which can be left in and...

    Cold radiator

HW and CH come on separately and are controlled via a mid position valve. The system is pressuriyed with an expansion vessel. I will run the system with the radiators shut off tomorrow.

    Cold radiator

I had the radiator off after draining downstairs. The radiator, TRV and lockshield were clear. I then put X200 down both pipes - flow and return - and the return is very sluggish to drain. I filled the system again and there was heat in the radiator ONCE andthen again the next day is stayed cold...
