    RTS turn off

Or two meters? One for normal and one for off peak run by a time clock such as the old mechanical one you mentioned?

Have You Ever Seen This Before On A Ceiling?

But surely you could have used your long pointy stick, most people carry a pointy stick constantly to poke miscreants in the eye with, the majority of those people make it a long one or a telescopic one thereby increasing permissible usage and/or scope of usage, its just common sense, innit?

Yes Good. Why didn`t we realise that!

Have You Ever Seen This Before On A Ceiling?

Are you refring to the switches, the luminaires or both? I have seen a switch for a bathroom extrator fan on a ceiling just once (because it was I who installed it as a means of isolating the fan whilst avoiding the then zones).

I`m not actually aware of (in the UK) any specific mention of the distance of the electrode to the installtion earth reference of the supply concerned. Of course I might be wrong. I can see that a limit on the distance might be desireable in any event though.

Yes John, all agreed, it`s a guess once all told, a few facts and figures in limited tragic cases some of which were not purely accidental too . therefore we have a clue, but it`s only a clue and not munch more in reaility however cleverly we try to use those clues - we can`treally do much else...

As in, the fault clears (or has time to clear) before someone is touching something, whereas we always assume for personal protection the fault occours when someone is already touching it, can make a difference and that difference could be life saving or injury limiting to some degree. The...

You did not say that you just said innocent. PS being found not guilty is not being found innocent, courst never find folks innocent!

Highway Man said: He wasn't convicted of rape so that makes him innocent in the eyes of the law and any other sane person. Not my definition of a sane person.

Those "Simple" plug in types do have their uses yes, etter than not having one or than using the old "Bang Bang 240 test" that some seem to use. It will indicate whether you seem to have or not to have an "Earth" of some kind and the newer ones tend to be much better than the older ones to some...

Yes John I agree with all of your points there. Yes surveys are limited so it`s a guess at best. RCD failure is not working to spec not just non functioning at all therefore could still save a life or worst effects anyways. No we do not test MCBs out in the field, we rely on type testing -...

with TT I`d be worried about the 7% possible failure rate and have two RCDs in tandem (hopefully different locations if one is a kitchen)

Yes John. But it`s like as me old grandad used to say when drinking pints with his pals in the pub - "Never trust a man who drinks halves!"

    Low resistance on microwave oven

Well excusable maybe or maybe not (I would err to towards not mostly) , but I do agree whole heartedly with "to say the microwave was at fault is not, and raises questions as to if any other errors have been made." I totally agree Eric. Go around and have a good look and try not to miss...

    Low resistance on microwave oven

"testing between line (L or N) and earth." was the bit I was reffering to s perhaps a typo. Should be - testing between live (Line or N) and earth. Then it makes sense The only time N is not considered Live if it is N & E combined and that is only by a convention. Yes I agree that phase is...

Well if you are reying on an RCD (which is almost always the case with an TT earth rod or plae etc) then an Earth Electrode tester and an Earth Loop tester is probably the best way to consider. You also need to consider the variation that might occour throughout the year (or its lifetime!)...

Anyway to repair this Power washer cable? (photos)

As you get older or more experienced then you tend to be less surprised by things you once upon a time never even considered folk might do. Expect the unexpected or somesuch quote by Sherlock. One not uncommon thing I`ve seen quite a few times is the undercupboard lighting trick - someone...

    Low resistance on microwave oven

Probably just a typo. Lots of folk say Live instead of Line so perhaps this one was this, but in reverse? ;)

Well yes it might be more than £20 plus tea and biscuits, it could lead to be a little (or even a lot) more problematic than ideally envisaged in the first place
