Creating a small opening in cellar wall (FOR ACCESS) - How to support the floor above?

Cheers for that cdbe. As a quick test, I've placed the props in the cellar and depending on where you set them and place the pin in the hole, they either are too short or too long for the height, i.e they are don't reach the height or they miss the joists because they are too high because the...

Creating a small opening in cellar wall (FOR ACCESS) - How to support the floor above?

That's very helpful, thank you. Yes one of joists is cornering off and I can see the face of the other two joists. Due to other responsibilities, I'm not going to start this work yet. And yes, I've taken on board what you've said with regarding to someone jumping, so my plan is to send the...

Creating a small opening in cellar wall (FOR ACCESS) - How to support the floor above?

Hi cdbe, Thanks so much for going the extra mile and providing a clear drawing. Now that makes sense to me. Would mind having a look at the edited drawing below and help me with a couple of questions? 1. When placing the lintel below the joists, is anything (such as mortar or a piece of...

Creating a small opening in cellar wall (FOR ACCESS) - How to support the floor above?

I'm afraid I've only got two acrow props, so it might have to be a makeshift piece of wood and car jack to support the weight. Also I'm unable to access the other side of the wall as behind the wall is the suspended floor half-full of soil and it's only accessible by lifting floorboards...

Creating a small opening in cellar wall (FOR ACCESS) - How to support the floor above?

Thanks very much. I have to say that my diagram was not very accurate, for which I can only apologise. So after having properly looked at the joists in the cellar, I've realised that due to them being only approx 14-16 inches apart, I'd need to have the lintel spread over at least 3 joists...

Creating a small opening in cellar wall (FOR ACCESS) - How to support the floor above?

Thanks for your help SFK. When you say one lintel to support only one joist, do you mean like this? Could you please show me a pic as what you mean by thick length of wood wedged under joist to floor to act as an acrow support? Also am I okay to use a concrete lintel or would I need to use...

Creating a small opening in cellar wall (FOR ACCESS) - How to support the floor above?

Hi everyone. I'm hoping someone could give me a bit of advice. I want to create a small opening (no wider than a door's width) in the cellar's internal brick wall. The reason for this is because currently there is no access to the suspended floor below and I want to access it so that it's so...

Old flag hinge doesn't appear to have any adjustment

Thanks very much for your tips. Unfortunately due to the wet weather here, I'm going to have to delay it a little. I'll definitely give your suggestions a try and will report back. Thanks so much again :giggle:

Old flag hinge doesn't appear to have any adjustment

Thanks crank39. The problem isn't that it's stuck, but due to the allen key slipping, it's wearing down the gearcog hole. Not sure how taking the weight off the door will make any difference, although happy to try it.

Old flag hinge doesn't appear to have any adjustment

Apologies I hope the OP won't mind me jumping in on this thread as I have a similar question and I would be very grateful if anyone can assist. We have two patio doors with flag hinges. After installing some dog bolts, there is now a slight gap of approx (2-4mm). After reading up, I found...

Fitting Anti Jemmy Claws / Dog Bolt Hinges to UPVC Doors

Apologies for the late reply. Please find attached multiple photo. Sorry, but from the photos, it's not very clear there is a much of a gap, but if you look for a white line, that's the gap. Thanks again for your help.

Fitting Anti Jemmy Claws / Dog Bolt Hinges to UPVC Doors

Thanks very much for your prompt reply and help. I'm so sorry, but I've made a terrible mistake as I didn't wait for your reply and have ended up cutting into the door frame to fit the dog bolt. The bolt fits, but I've noticed that when the door is in close position, the rubber seal is not...

Fitting Anti Jemmy Claws / Dog Bolt Hinges to UPVC Doors

Hi everyone, I've tried to find info on this topic, but I've not had any luck. Due to a recent local burglary at a neighbour's property, I've become very security conscience and need your help and advice. Our home has upvc doors. The front door is composite/upvc. We also have two opening...

Worcester Bosch Greenstar 8000 Life problems....Or are they???

Apologies if I wasn't clear snb, but I didn't mean that it stops for 20 minutes each time - I meant 20 minutes in total if we open the tap 2-3 times. Unfortunately, I don't know how big our semi-detached house (built in 1935) is in square meters. I have changed the 3-b1 setting which was on...

Worcester Bosch Greenstar 8000 Life problems....Or are they???

I appreciate what you're say snb, but none of this applies to me. For example the boiler we have is 35KW for DHW and 30KW for CH and it runs 11 radiators max. We don't have any dripping taps at all. The system as per the advice on this forum was balanced, but this issue is simply the fact...
