    Plasterboard Question

Okay. Wow. Everything I'm doing is wrong. Again. It's just like talking to the missus! I was planning to use: 12.5mm board on the stud walls - leaving 5.5mm skim. 9.5 mm board on the dot and dab - leaving 8.5 mm for dab & skim ... so perhaps a bit tight in places but certainly not over...

    Plasterboard Question

I am about to start plaster boarding for the first time. Some of the work is screw to studs, some is dot and dab to brick wall. I am going to use 7" skirting boards and I am intending to fit 5 1/2" x 18mm MDF base boards behind them and plaster the boards up to level with them. I understand...

    1/2" and 15mm question

I am fitting a water heater. The expansion valve has 1/2" female input and output. I am going into 15mm copper. Do I need to source 1/2" male to 15mm compression fittings or can I just ditch the nut and olive from a 15mm compression coupler and it with some Jet Blue? Thanks.

    Honeywell Thermostat Replacement

Thanks for this ..... but 1. I wasn't literally serious about facebook ... if I'm honest I don't really know what facebook is ... and ... 2. The benefits you point out, "knowing outside temp", "learning how I use the heating" etc are exactly what I would like to avoid. I really don't get on...

    Honeywell Thermostat Replacement

Hi My combi is controlled by a Honeywell CMS927B via a Honeywell RD666OD next to the boiler. It all works well but the CMs unit has started to have problems with the display becoming unreadable. I understand that this is quite common. I also undersatnd that the CMS927B in no longer...

    Building a Windowsill

Yes. Dot and dab, insulated board and skim change all that. By about 100mm. Back to the actual question?

    Building a Windowsill

I am attempting to make a windowsill for a bedroom. In order for the sill to look right it needs to emerge from underneath the existing window. We currently have the plaster off and are going to replace it with insulated board and skim. The window is sited in an original Victorian stone...

    Ladder Problem

For sure. Men can actually fly perfectly well. It's landing that's the problem. Both walls are solid and flat. My main worry is that the ladder at 26' plus off the ground, with a foot spacing of 4' is going to come off the wall quite easily, especially when I start drilling through a solid...

    Ladder Problem

I am not sure whether this is the right place in the forum to post this. If it isn't I hope that someone will tell me and then I can post it in the right place. I need to install some network cable on the outside of my house. I need to bring the cable down from the top floor, (entry point is 26...

    Insulated board and skirtings

Good advice, thanks. Nope. Pine. Don't worry too much though, I've done several other rooms with it and it looks great! (y)(y) Thanks.

    Insulated board and skirtings

The skirtings are going to be wood. They are not being painted, they are being waxed and polished throughout the house. Mdf obviously won't work for that.

    Insulated board and skirtings

Hi I am prepping some rooms for plastering. In the past I have fixed a 20mm timber around at floor level to fasten the skirting boards to after the plasterers have finished. The plasterer then plasterboards down to the timber and skims up to level with it. Simples. This time, for some walls...
