    Render Job. How bad?

I think they have. It was like the adjoining house of which you can see a small part of. Original brickwork and a sand/cement rendered bay which had a few movement cracks in it. The main reason they did this was at one point the good brickwork was painted over and more recently had begun to...

    Render Job. How bad?

Being a bit of a Michael Pane and twitching my net curtains, I was wondering how bad this render job was on a neighbours house. Is it as bad as I think it is? From what I saw it was the silicone type k-rend stuff. Their prep seemed to consist of slapping on some kind of green paint base coat...

Battery Testing a mobility scooter -interpreting readings.

Just as a follow-up to this, I've been reading up on all things batteries. I was curious to look at the options regarding using a Lithium battery in a scooter. Specifically I was interested as to whether a lesser AH battery could be used to replace a standard lead-acid...

Immersion or Gas for summer hot water?

Indeed, if I really wanted to cut it to the bone I could turn off the immersion for the most of the day and only put it on for baths/showers. The reheat time is pretty quick. @Johntheo5 I imagine the boiler efficiency of this particular model is below 60%. Potentially nearer 50%. Idon't want to...

Immersion or Gas for summer hot water?

This is true, but at the same time, what the immersion heats is more than adequate, as you say (I should have confirmed that). I was already keeping in mind the difference between how much they heat in my "experiment". So indeed, while "like for like" the electric would indeed be far more, it...

Immersion or Gas for summer hot water?

The, very rough, experiment is complete. With the "warm days" for the last two days. I decided to do an experiment. I turned off heating and hotwater via the boiler and only used an immersion heater set so that the hot water was "hot but touchable", about 45degrees (Yes, I know I should be...

Immersion or Gas for summer hot water?

Ahh, yeh, It's certainly G rated. It's actually a Spacesaver 45-60, non-fan assisted. I was getting mixed up with something else. But I think the G rating classification is 65% "and below". I think they give up trying to give you specifics at that point. But based on anecdotal comparisons and...

Immersion or Gas for summer hot water?

Trust me it won't :ROFLMAO: It's a Glowworm Spacesaver MK2 circa 1975. Bulletproof reliability.....but full of bullet holes in terms of efficiency....I think I'm being optimistic at 50% efficiency to be honest. I've been hypermiling "the beast" this winter to be as efficient as possible...

Immersion or Gas for summer hot water?

I have a very old but reliable Gas boiler. Let's just say it's efficiency is perhaps around the 50% mark. Now, I was pondering if it was worth switching to an immersion for summer hot water only heating. But from what I can see, even at 50% efficiency, it is still cheaper than electric. Gas...

Kitchen lighting - Where have I gone wrong?

I came across this light fitting for the kitchen. The brightness of a fluorescent tube, but nicely designed so it did not look so utilitarian. I bought it for my kitchen and it has been fantastic. Two 28w tubes which put out a fantastic amount of light. Now prices are coming down I plan to...

Battery Testing a mobility scooter -interpreting readings.

Indeed. This did suggest it had been recently serviced and the vague potential the batteries might have been replaced 6 months ago. But, without firm confirmation, and the multimeter readings I got, I backed out. Still, something to learn regarding what to look out for regarding voltages.

Battery Testing a mobility scooter -interpreting readings.

Thank you. I only saw this after my reply above. So....based on that information. It would indicate the batteries in this scooter were toast? Some extra context, this was a potential purchase, so I only had limited opportunity (and a multimeter) to test if it was worth it or not.

Battery Testing a mobility scooter -interpreting readings.

Ahh, so the results could have been skewed by lack of recent charging? I was not sure how the voltage reading might be affected a battery that was...perhaps...80% charged. It was likely a few weeks had gone by since it was last fully charged. The scooter's own dial meter (probably a crude...

Battery Testing a mobility scooter -interpreting readings.

Just testing a battery on a mobility scooter that has two 12v batteries. Wanting some help interpreting. From youtube videos, they suggest using a multimeter in the charging port when the scooter is on. It indicates a fully charged two 12V battery scooter should put out around 24V, but often...

Storage Heaters. Replace? Or another alternative.

Looks like sticking with the 2006 storage heaters is a good option for now. I'll have to look at other options for the EPC. Out of interest (on a related note). For a standard (day rate) heater. For something that looks vaguely like a normal wall hung radiator, are the options below the...

Storage Heaters. Replace? Or another alternative.

I have a small flat (2 bedroom) which I rent out with storage heaters which were installed circa 2006. They work perfectly fine and while they are recent-ish installs, they are the standard manual control type. This means that the EPC is impacted a lot, an E I think. The rest of the flat has...

    Painting storage heaters

Get a test piece of metal and practice first. Painting anything like a radiator with a brush and without much experience, you may end up with it looking a bit of a mess close up. Brush lines etc. Also, ifyou are using them at the moment so they are permanently warm, this could impact how the...

Heating Programmer quirk? Or working as expected.

OK, I managed to do a few tests. Sat a voice recorder on the 3 way valve, and while changing the programmer settings, I listened back for any motor clicks etc. So... Hotwater only (off to on) - click and motor whirr Hotwater only (on to off) - can't hear any type of click or whirr Central...

Heating Programmer quirk? Or working as expected.

So turn the HW off via the programmer, and while the boiler will shutdown (due to the potential wiring mix-up), the 3 way valve should still go to heating only? How will I tell if it goes to CH only rather than mid position?

    EV charging, external socket only?

I was just wondering if something like this was feasible. For a historic property or one in a conservation area, the big external EV charging ports tend to be less than discreet. I personally don't like the aesthetics of many. I appreciate there are some "designer ones" that cater for this but...
