Is the wall behind the taps a false wall or a brick wall?

The bolt kit you posted the pic for does not require any silicone dabbed anywhere near it the 2 conical seals will be sufficient.
Is that silicone on the rad tail?
Have you checked that there is an insert in the end of the pipe?
Check that it has just split & has not been chewed.
If it's split as said above was a cheap stiff connector, if it's been chewed then get some...
The rubber 'o' ring under the "column nut" will be letting by, take it back or try some silicone grease
The Fluidmaster valve will be ok or you can try a square syphon
