Best way to restore detailing around bay window

Thanks, Tigercubrider. I think they suggested Jesmonite 730 as it's external and needs to be weatherproof, although we will end up painting the whole stonework.

    Create ornamental pillar effect

Hi all I'm looking to restore the vertical pillars around my front door. Pictures are below. It's an 1870s London victorian house in a conservation area, so we have to get it back to how the original looked. It probably would have been concrete and I think we can re-do it ourselves, I just need...

Best way to restore detailing around bay window

Hi all I'm looking for advice on restoring our bay window. The previous occupant thought it would be great to shear off the London victorian detailing and to pebbledash the front of the house. We've got the pebbledash off ourselves but now need to restore the look of the bay window as we live...

Advice for fixing a leaking exhaust flue

I understand but I don't have many options. I'm going to have to get him to check it first and then get Gas-Safe to inspect it afterwards. I wish I could have done it all right from the start but because of COVID we had zero choice.

Advice for fixing a leaking exhaust flue

Update: He is coming over to fix it today. He is saying that it is due to rain water in the flue, but I've pointed out that it hasn't rained today and now he thinks its condensation. He hasn't mentioned anything about the other issues raised by you all.

Advice for fixing a leaking exhaust flue

I've looked through my docs and I have a letter from Vaillant confirming registration and I have a building regulations compliance certificate too. I just spoke to Gas-Safe and they said I can raise a concern and that they will try to get an inspector out within 20 days and then if needed force...

Advice for fixing a leaking exhaust flue

Wow, okay - so more serious than I assumed. I'm not sure what the building control notice is - is this something the installer would have done? I'll contact Gas-Safe first. Thanks for the advice!

Advice for fixing a leaking exhaust flue

Hello all! During lockdown in April we moved into a new house and on day 1 found a gas leak which required a new boiler system. Our options were limited due to full lockdown so we got in touch with the closest boiler installation guy we could find, willing to work during the lockdown. Long...

    Does this quote sound right?

Thanks both. Winston - ordinarily we would have multiple people round for multiple quotes but during the coronavirus crisis we don't want to unnecessarily increase the the people were exposed to. This guy is local and we'll reviewed by our neighbours. So happy to risk it. Flameport - yeah...

    Does this quote sound right?

Hi all Just moved into a vacant property. There was a gas leak at the main valve, which emergency gas service fixed but said whole system needs checking over before it can be used. We got a guy round who was great and identified the pipes that need replacing. We also decided to replace boiler...

Would a three storey extension be allowed on these houses?

Hi all I'm looking to buy a victorian terrace in East London with the idea that I'd have (hopefully) enough left over to build a side extension, second story box, attic conversion and third story box. I'll probably have around £125k, possibly £140k if I have to take an extra loan. It's one of...

Advice on the order of renovation works

Thanks for that. The carpets definitely need removing - there was mouse problem and the whole house has not been very loved. I'm sure we'll be roughing it for a while but it should be worth it in the end!

Advice on the order of renovation works

Great, thanks. Yes, we will be living there while we do all the work - to save as much money as possible. Ok that makes sense to get 1st floor done. While we're waiting for plans etc for extension we would like to do as much as we can ourselves. If we live without central heating for that...

Advice on the order of renovation works

Hi all I'm moving into a new house, we got it for a bargain because it's in pretty poor condition. Floor plan Photos I'm not sure about the order in which we should do work to it. The 'essentials' that need doing are: -Rip up the carpet and restore wooden floors (DIY) -Repair/replace any...

    Help estimating kitchen extension cost

Thanks, Mikeey. I'm budgeting 60-70k but hoping 50k could do it for 40m2 - may be ambitious, but I'm not really sure what everything should cost. Cheers

    Help estimating kitchen extension cost

Hi all We're moving into a new victorian terraced house that needs a lot of work - double glazing, heating, floorboard etc - but the main thing we want to do is a kitchen side extension. From the sale of our previous house, we will end up with around £75k and the idea is to make sure we get the...

Advise on rescuing my front garden, please!

Hi all I'm looking for some advice on how to deal with my front garden. When we moved in four years ago there was a massive bush and the whole garden was covered in decorative stones (see image). I've chopped the bush down and what I really need is some help in dealing with the decorative...
