    duel flush toilet refil problems.

Ah I see. The cable isn't interfering with the float valve though as it's normally on the other side, and the toilet doesn't refil even if I've lifted the lid and everything is out of the way when I flush. Looks like a replacement of B & E may be needed?

    duel flush toilet refil problems.

Thanks Rosie. Can I ask why that needs to be done? Was it installed the wrong way around? The flap thing at the bottom of E def isn't resealing properly as I managed to have a feel around and could push it down and shut properly.

    duel flush toilet refil problems.

Hi all. I have a problem with my loo. It was fitted about ten months ago and has been fine up til about 2 weeks ago. It was a cheap trade screwfix one. Problem is toilet is running after long flush. (short flush was ok, but that has stopped working now) The push button won't rise up...

    Removing upvc beading

Hi, thanks. So do I need to be pushing the blade into the side where I have arrowed (but in the middle) or the part of the bead next to the glass? Any do I really need to force it in there? I'm worried about breaking something. Many thanks.

    Removing upvc beading

Hi Could someone let me know if I'm trying to remove the beading on this door in the right place. I've marked where I am trying to get the blade into, but it's extremely tightly fitted, and I'm getting nowhere. Do I need to use a fair amount of wellie?

What's happened to my hot water.

Thanks for your reply. My heating is on at the moment so I can't check if the radiators get warm when I run the shower, but I will later. I've just tried running the shower with the cold tap in the sink basin running, and it's defintely hotter, but not hot enough for me to want to get in it...

What's happened to my hot water.

In the last week (since the start of this really cold weather) my shower only gets warm at best. Before this I was having piping hot showers. I have a combi boiler and the water to the kitchen and the bathroom basin is fine, lovely and hot. The shower is a Mira element and stands above...

Come to a stop - problem with worktop size and cooker.

Thanks all for your suggestions. The worktop is square edge. The friend who did is 120 odd miles away but he'll be up again in a month so I'll ask him to either help with the offcuts or use an oak strip.

Come to a stop - problem with worktop size and cooker.

Hi I've come to a complete stop in installing my kitchen, and can't go any further until I solve my problem. I have oak worktops which are lovely. A friend visited to cut them to size (to fit the width of the units exactly), and he did a really nice job. The problem is that I failed to...

    Unibond grout mixing help needed.

Thanks for your fast reply. I'll try mixing it as you said. I'm really hoping to get it down tonight so I can do the sealant tomorrow and finally have a bath the day after!

    Unibond grout mixing help needed.

Afternoon. I've just started to grout the tiles around my shower using unibond anti mould power shower grout. The instructions said 1 part water to 4 parts grout. I used a tub with a line drawn on as a measuring jug, measured the water into a bowl first, then added the grout. I could...

mist coat and paint for kitchen and bathroom

Morning Just had my kitchen and bathroom boarded and plastered. I don't like shiny or sheened walls so can I use normal emulson paint for a mist coat, and then would it be fine to then use normal white emulson for the ceilings and dulux diamond matt for the walls? If not what would you...

    renovating sashes

Hi thanks for your reply. I know that it can cost from £700 to £1000 each if I replaced them,so was hoping renovation would be cheaper. Many thanks

    renovating sashes

Hi, I have three wooden sash windows in my 1st floor front room, all about 1 m wide and 2m high. They badly need renovating, paint is peeling and cracking, there are gaps, they rattle, sashes broken, boxes not in good condition etc. I would rather renovate than replace. not bothered about...

    Any SE around?

Thanks for that. When I queried him, he emailed me, copying in my builder saying that I said that the neighbours used a steel beam! I never said that or anything remotely like it. I can absolutey swear I didn't and was very shocked to read it. But the point is I could have said that the...

    Any SE around?

Thanks for your reply. That's my concern. The SE knew about next door and still did the calcs and drawings for gallows brackets. I feel uneasy about it as he is the professional, and will know 100 times more than I do about this, but he won't give me any reassurance that these will be...

    Any SE around?

Thank you both. My concern is that the support is suffcient for the load, and that it satisfies the freeholder, and building control. As I have to pay a fee to both for consideration. For the amount of space to be saved it wouldn't be financially sound to remove the whole stack on the...

    Any SE around?

Hi, I know I've posted below but I'm feeling stumped on this one. My local authority BC guidance states that if my neighbours have removed a chimney breast then it is unlikely that I could use gallows brackets if I remove mine and a steel must be used instead. My neighbour has removed...

Advice needed on wording of party wall agreement.

Thanks for that. I've gone the informal route and got written consent from my neighbour. but what you have said about the use of gallows brackets concerned me also. I've been trying to find out what an engineer needs to consider when doing a calc, esp on a party wall property, and if they...
