    Yep, done all that including changing ceiling rose. In all fairness the house really wants a complete rewire, probably vermin have chewed the wire. No kidding it's in a bad state

    roped to fix light switch and on removing switch found only 1 cable and 2 wires going into switch. Checked everything else rose, bulb holder, etc all seem ok. Shouldnt there be to cables and 4 wires going into back of switch? This is the limit of my messing with electrics which is obvious so...

    I take it your back plate fell in the washer and you have managed to retrieve it? In my case I had to take the top of the washer off to retrieve my the plate and then it was a simple matter for me to hold it on the inside whilst I screwed it back on. I think that's what I did! It was a while...

    The actual fixing wasn't much of a problem once I realised that I had to make sure the bracket was held in place whilst I got the first screw connected.

    Thanks everybody, it transpires that it's a company which have branches throughout the country, and apparently the final account was drawn up by the office. Methinks I will have a word in their ear tomorrow. It's not the money it the principal.

    It was a test which social services specified for an elderly lady who his mentally handicapped. We want to see if is safe for her to occupy the house. What's the difference between a 100% and a 20% test. We were give a 9 page report full of various boxes which were ticked.

    Just had a EICR carried out on MIL house. Was quoted £350 initially but final charge was £460. It's a 3 bed semi in very poor state and there were 2 of them and they were there just over 2 hours. Is this a reasonable charge or have we been ripped off

    Circuit breaker keeps tripping when iron is switched on. Reset circuit breaker and iron works ok. What could it be and is it fixable. Checked plug and it is ok.

    I know it's a bit late but just in case anybody else has the same problem, I managed to locate the missing part and retrieve it with a magnet attached to a long thin pole. Saved me the ridiculous cost of sending for a replacement.
