    Extending under stair cupboard support

When I removed the wall, there were no doubled up timbers anywhere just single 2x4. Where the wall in the bathroom is that was an airing cupboard turned into a shower. Also the trimmer joist is the only one there in line with the edge of my landing. There were no repeat trimmers. Just that one...

    Extending under stair cupboard support

I need to try and find a floor plan. Because the wall in the bathroom and the wall I removed are separated between floors is this a good indication that theyre not connected in one load bearing wall?

    Extending under stair cupboard support

Ive got you and thank you I know where you're coming from. I will try to draw a set up. I thought that trimmer was to do with holding up the floorboards for the landing at the top of the stairs but may/may not be. The landing doesn't run parallel to the stud wall that was removed it is at a...

    Extending under stair cupboard support

Probably made a big boo boo tbh. Especially as I have now plaster boarded that cupboard and I believe the bathroom stud wall is sort of floating now but I need to have another good look tonight as the bathroom wall may be seperate . May be a rip out job. It's been like that for about 1 year but...

    Extending under stair cupboard support

thank you for the reply. From what I could see when I removed the studwall and exposed a gap in the ceiling the studwall was sat under a joist running the same way. this used to be a stud wall separating 2 rooms with a door. There is an external wall and a sleeper wall which I presume will be...

    Extending under stair cupboard support

Hi all I was hoping you could help I have started taking down what I believe to be a stud wall under my stairs. I'm feeling a little uneasy about some of the studwork in case it's supporting. Please could someone advise if any of these posts are holding up the quarter landing as I'm a bit...

    Cooker Hood

Good Afternoon all I need to put up a cooker hood. I want to get it smack bang level with the hob. What is the best way? measure the middle of hob, mark wall and then rely on spirit level accuracy to make a mark further up the wall for the bracket? thank you in advance. Michael

    Driveway drainage. Potential issue

I thought as much. Neighbour across the road doesn't have one installed. It comes with a 5 year guarantee I suppose and so long as it doesn't cause problems, I read on one forum it could lift the tarmac if water is getting under but surely if that were to happen then it could with the water...

    Driveway drainage. Potential issue

Bank transfer and all I can think is border paving will take care of rainwater. Would rather have the drainage ripped out so that there's no potential of it filling up abd rely on the border to soak away the rainwater. Drive slightly slopes towards the road aswell.

    Driveway drainage. Potential issue

Hi all I have had a new driveway installed in tarmac and block border. All looks great except I have had a channel drain as the guy said because I used to have a garden then this is needed. I have since had a look at the drain and it doesn't connect to anything. I called the guy and he said...

    Joists on sleeper wall

Hi woody So because the joist rests on this internal sleeper wall is that classed as the support or does it physically have to tie into the brick or the external wall? Basically just trying to work out if I have plenty of meat left on my joist due to notching which if the hollow block wall is...

    Joists on sleeper wall

Hi all I have had notches cut out of joists for waste pipe for the shower. The joist spans from one wall in the bathroom, stud wall between bathroom and bedroom and I presume it's one long joist to the end wall in the bedroom. The joist depth is 175mm and my question is because there's a...
