    Water Pressure Query

It’s the EV, not the PRV that is on the cold supply near the boiler Johntheo. The PRV is on the cold water main as it enters the house.

    Water Pressure Query

Thanks for all your advice Johntheo Just one final thing, the ev is placed on the COLD water supply to the boiler, that’s correct isn’t it?

    Water Pressure Query

What does drop-tight mean exactly? What I can’t understand is that the pressure increase happens immediately the hot is switched off, I don’t think the problem can be related to hot water expansion. Also, just noticed that the increase in pressure is different for the upstairs and downstairs taps!!

    Water Pressure Query

The PRV is a Honeywell. Sorry to be thick but what does PHE stand for?

    Water Pressure Query

Yes Johntheo, in fact while the hot tap is switched on it drops below 3.5bar but shoots up to 6.5 as soon as it is shut off.

    Water Pressure Query

Thanks dal5band, but at the end of the day, when the hot supply is turned off the pressure still reads 6.5 bar, which is worrying to say the least.

    Water Pressure Query

Thanks Johntheo but the boiler is supplied by water that has passed through the PRV. Am I missing your point?

    Water Pressure Query

Yes, it's a real puzzler. Even if the PRV wasn't drop-tight I still don't understand why the hot tap off gives 6bar and the cold tap off gives 3.

    Water Pressure Query

Correct Johntheo, the PRV supplies all cold supply. If I turn on hot tap and off immediately, before any water has chance to heat up, pressure rises to 6bar. If I then turn cold tap on and off it will drop to 3.5,

    Water Pressure Query

The boiler is in the loft, the PRV is at ground level. There is a 0.16L. mini expansion vessel about a metre on the cold water supply from the boiler.

    Water Pressure Query

Hi, I have fitted a water pressure restrictor but am puzzled that when I turn the cold tap on and then off the pressure stabilises at 3.5 bar as expected. However, when I do the same with the hot tap it reads almost 6 bar! I know that hot water expanding will cause the pressure to rise but I...

    wood/plastic gutter problem

Thanks J&K. Unfortunately the property is a couple of hours away from me so can't send a pic but from memory the newer plastic guttering isn't half-round as in the photo of the item you suggested. The actual profile isn't dis-similar to the rectangular profile of the existing wooden gutter but...

    wood/plastic gutter problem

Hi, I have a problem where an existing wooden gutter has been joined (not very well!!)to a neighbour's plastic rainwater gutter and is leaking. My initial thoughts were to fibreglass over the joint, but I don't think the plastic gutter would adhere very well to the glass. Is there a gutter...

Water hammer only when turning on

Hi, Anyone got any ideas on this one? I’ve got a combi boiler and a water meter. Fitted a pressure reducer set to 3 bar but got pressure increase after demanding hot water so fitted a mini expansion vessel (0.16l) to the cold mains near boiler. I got water hammer when the hot tap in either...

    Water pressure reducer

I have fitted a Zilmet 0.16Ltr Potable Expansion Vessel Shock Arrestor in the cold water system near to the boiler in the loft and this has solved the excess pressure reading on the pressure reducer guage. However, after a week of no problems, I'm now getting a loud water hammer when the hot...

    Honeywell Pressure Reducing Valve D04FM

Hi, Just starting to install the above into vertical mains pipe flowing upwards. The instructions say if mounting vertically it should be installed with the spring bonnet adjuster uppermost, however if I put it in like that the flow will be opposite to that marked on the valve. Can anybody...
