    15MM central heating pipes

If and that's a big if, the lock shield valves are set correctly, it will not matter what size pipe is used. In a small home having the pipes size slowly reducing can assist in ensuring flow to all radiators whatever has been done with the lock shield valves. But as the home gets larger, we get...

'Safe Zone' created by 'current using equipment' ??

As to original question, if the whole appliance defines the zone, wires still need to run straight not diagonal, and one would not want to remove the wiring when ever the appliance is removed, so in real terms it would be the outlet which defines the zone.

Battery size to use off peak power?

There have been some good points made, since no option as to first battery, it is needed for a few reasons, one to be eligible for payment for export, my panels were fitted to late for grandfather rights, two it stops have to check state of sun shine, and three gives some UPS function, so only...

2 way switching plus 1 intermediate

Yes there are two common ways, this is the method you show, and there is only one connector block used in the intermediate switch, this is same with other method, but at school we were taught this as two way wiring, which means a connector block in each two way switch rather than this which...

    Underfloor heating

Two types of electric under floor heating, chemical is self regulating, and resistive needs a under floor sensor to stop over heating, and the thermostat has both air and floor sensing if the thermostat had not got that facility it should not have been used.

    Funny one

Ian Smith caused a copper shortage, and in the 70's we also used aluminium small cables. I was not for long, but we did use them.

'Safe Zone' created by 'current using equipment' ??

Not fixed a mirror, buy TV tends to have fixing brackets on which the TV is placed, so not really fixed to wall, it is fixed to a bracket which in turn fixed to wall. And some where there is something which allows the cable to exit the wall, which will remain when the TV is removed, one does...

    Smart meter commissioning (Ed.)

Interesting, I had a smart meter installed, mainly to allow payment for exported energy, but also allowed split tariff, I have an IHD and a phone app. The meter is installed where hard to read. The IHD does not seem to show any history, the app is hit and miss, in my case British Gas, and the...

Battery size to use off peak power?

Yes we have no idea as to future, we have seen duel tariff, reduce and increase the diffrence between night and day rates. We have seen the whole idea of storage heaters move from being the best idea since sliced bread, to a system everyone is trying to get rid of. Oil and gas have never as...

Battery size to use off peak power?

Any point on graph will show how much was being used at that point, but the kWh readings are area under graph and near impossible to work out, so I have real time 6.4 kWh imported today, if I look again at midnight I will also see what imported for whole day, so can work out how much at each...

    Funny one

I noted with my Tapo (TP-Link) light switch it came with wire nuts. However not sure about the wire colours, are they aluminum?

    HIVE Control Wiring

The three port valve comes pre-wired, so I would use the colours of that cable to identify what does what.

    Garage supply

63 amp MCB? OK the old LoadMaster had 70 amp MCB's but most makes you will be lucky to find over a 45 amp. As to why you want so much power not sure? We tend to have 6, 16, 20, 32, 40 amp MCB's there are other sizes, but a supply to sockets is rarely over 32 amp, so supply to garage at 40 amp...

Headlines Six tumble dryer fires in seven weeks but what type?

If likely sunny weather then drier used during the day, but if poor weather then used over night when on cheap grid tariff. I suppose since paid more for export during the day to what I pay for import over night should always use over night, and I would think the chance of a fire with a heat...

Battery size to use off peak power?

I am tied to British Gas so just over 30p 8am to midnight and just under 9 p midnight to 8 am. I have looked at Octopus but swings and roundabouts, may be better but could also be worse, and I don't have enough records to know which over the year which. My main problem is unless I note power...

I note my heat pump drier had three stages to catch lint. But it may stop it working, but unlikely to catch fire.

Wheres best place to put (sockets) for washing machine and dishwasher? (Ed.)

Not a clue why that weight for items non fixed and not on wheels was selected. But it is the demarcation line between portable and non portable unless on wheels. The new landlord law in England includes any item not protable in the EICR, so the demarcation does matter. I feel to expect some...

Battery size to use off peak power?

Yesterday for the first time since solar panels fitted with batteries, the battery did not fully discharge before I went on reduced tariff of around 9p a kWh. Yes produced more than used before, but first time when at midnight I had not gone down to 10% charge, with 3.2 kWh battery. I suspect...

Headlines Six tumble dryer fires in seven weeks but what type?

70,000/4.2 members of household average/7 as number of fires. However my main point is lack of info, if 9 out of 10 fires are vented, or 9 out of 10 condensate, or 9 out of 10 heat pump although I suppose heat pump also condensate driers, then we can assess the risk. If further sub devided...
