    Waterproofer vs plasticiser

Any reason to use standard admix plasticiser over “integral waterproofer which is also a plasticiser” for face brickwork (blue engineers)? Both are the everbuild yellow bottles. I’ve run out of normal admix but got a full bottle of the waterproofer+plasticiser stuff. Will deffo buy a new bottle...

    Soakaway tips

Need to dig a soakaway, to drain about 20m2 of block paving. I’ll fill it with rubble rather than buy the plastic crates, as I’ve got a big pile of it already. Reckon a cubic meter is good for this? Or can get away with less or need more? It’s not clay, more sandy clean soil. How small would you...

    Blue brick curved wall

Yeah, I’ve laid much bigger quantities of decent machine mixed muck gauged properly. This was mixed in a barrow on a winter day and struck too early for my liking so wasn’t the best plan. You’re right, the whiteness on the dye does look a bit like an ironed joint done way too early, maybe that...

    Blue brick curved wall

Yep, weather so bad/cold/damp that they got pointed up the next morning. Wasn’t a frost though.

    Blue brick curved wall

Reckon brick acid will remove the white? I’ve no idea what it is, whether efflorescence or something else. Bricks the wrong way round, despite proving to be a popular talking point, are the least of my worries and a mistake I’ll never make again…

    Project before and after

What did you joint it with in the end? Doesn’t look like S&C

Yep well spotted, I got some wrong. Does get a mention further up the thread (y)

    Blue brick curved wall

I haven’t touched this since Christmas as I’ve been doing other work but I’m not happy about how it looks. In the weeks after laying it, it looked good, uniform black mortar. I’m not sure if this discolouration is efflorescence, or due to all the recent wet weather. I know I’m not the best...

Cracked clay gully replacement. A few questions

If you want to keep the cast iron I’d do the same as noseall post but put a gulley in, no need to seal the cast iron pipe against smells where it converts to 110mm plastic then

    Mixed size block paving

I assume I can just lay these (3 different sizes) in a random stretcher bond pattern? And order roughly the same quantity of each size? Ta.

    Single leaf 'Celcon' wall.

The cavity wall overall width must currently be wider than 215mm surely? I wouldn’t lay them flat, assuming that’s what you mean. I’d match the cavity and insulate it. If it’s being clad you might get away with celcon outer skin but I’d use a lightweight concrete block, you can get ones that...

    Bought car, can’t tax it

Post office taxed it using the v62 no issues. I’m happy again - thanks all for the advice!

    Bought car, can’t tax it

Yep, to me that means the car will be on my drive for weeks until a new v5 comes through. Not happy about that and will speak to dealer.

    Bought car, can’t tax it

From whichever day I manage to get it done presumably. All I’m bothered about is being able to tax and drive it  Spoke to garage again just now who once again told me I’ll have no issues taxing it using a v62. I’ll see in the morning…. But I have my doubts

    Bought car, can’t tax it

Yep, that’s the situation I think. I’ll try the post office in the morning but I’m not too hopeful!

    Bought car, can’t tax it

Can’t really believe I’ve managed to get myself into this situation given the number of cars I’ve bought over the years and I should know better, but… Bought a lovely new car earlier, from carsa (dealer chain). Towards the end, get told they haven’t got the v5, and they give me a v62 instead...

    Extending the landing

How did you manage to fit those LED lights? They look good. Making the landing wider I’d say is possible but a faff. You’d be oversailing the chunky trimmer which I assume runs along the edge, with limited options to support it at the ends

    Mixed size block paving

Sorry, should have said already chosen bradstone Woburn graphite which I don’t think comes in a mixed pack having had another look.

    Mixed size block paving

I know this is a silly question, but for block paving like in the pic where you have mixed sizes in like a stretcher pattern, am I right in thinking you can't buy mixed packs, but have to buy a pack of each size (guess the merchant may split packs)? Also, any idea if those guillotine block...
