Shaver Socket with USB Charging points?

So many would likley have seen you can buy shaver sockets that include built in USB charging sockets. Question is, when such a shaver socket is certified to EN 61558, does that certification apply to the whole unit with USB sockets (and thus suitable for use in zone 2 in a bathroom) or only the...

Whirlpool Generation 2000+ G2P DWI Dishwasher Constantly beeping at end/mid way through of cycle!

Anyone know what may be causing this fault and how to fix it? I have a Whirlpool Generation 2000+ G2P DWI Dishwasher that was in the house when we moved in in 2012 (i.e. Don't know how old it is), and it has recently started beeping at the end/mid way through the cycle and ends up on the rinse...

    Consumer unit EICR c3 fail?

The three non RCD protected circuits in theory can have their MCB's replaced with RCBO's, the bigger problem is where the plastic nature of the consumer unit is going to meet any potential legal requirements imposed on landlord (such as the result of a EICR for example) or if the whole consumer...

Can 70W HPS lamps cycle due to a faulty ballast and not a end-of-life/faulty lamp?

Went to fix a 70W HPS fixture (ignitor internal to lamp) at a neighbors the other day after he mentioned it had stopped working. Said it had recently gone out and put a new new-old stock lamp in himself, but that did not last long until it went out again, so I went over and swapped the bulb over...

Do any Vaillant weather compensating controls support traditional hard wired thermostats?

I have have a Vailant EcoTec Plus 937 boiler that is about 10 years old. During it's first few years, I had the VRC700f control with the wireless outdoor temperature sensor, that modulates the flow temperature based on the outside temperature. Unfortunately the outside weather temperature...

Advert for UK electrical wholesaler showing american electrics?

Did anyone else see this on the socials a couple of weeks ago? TLC, A UK electrical wholesaler, advertising with a picture of US/American electrics? I'm sure it was a genuine mistake, but who else (if anyone) noticed? Kind regards: Elliott.

2 Amp round pin plug wired to trailing socket?

Yes, if there's one thing you learn in life, it's people will find a way to do the most stupid and silly things, despite our best efforts to prevent otherwise. Engineer your design like one is trying to exploit it's shortcomings and make it fail in the most dangerous way possible.

    Plastic gas pipe to boiler!

Not technically a disaster, but felt this was the most appropriate section of the forum. Just a story from a now retired plumber in my family. A long time ago, a plumber in my extended family (now retired) got a call from someone saying they could smell gas in their home. When he got there, he...

May sound daft, but how does an immersion heater work?

Or install a pump to circulate the water from the top of the tank to the bottom of the tank. (Or circulate from bottom to top.)

    Which double socket to buy

I have always liked Schneider's Ultimate slim range. Also never had a problem with LAP and have used them quiet a few times before. Brands I tend to avoid personally for switches and sockets are Telco, some lower end BG stuff and Contactum. Most important thing is to not get no-name brands of...

2 Amp round pin plug wired to trailing socket?

Sorry for the late reply. Firstly I am not surprised that despite the official 2A rating of the plug, that the design can likely handle way more current than 2 amps. Would be interesting if someone could put this to the test and see how much current a 2 amp plug can handle before it reaches 70c...

2 Amp round pin plug wired to trailing socket?

That is correct, however you could still end up with a load greater than 2 amps on the round pin plug it's self (plug rating) but under 5/6 amps (circuit rating), so what's your take on that.

2 Amp round pin plug wired to trailing socket?

Curious how one would react to/code to a 2 amp round pin plug wired to a normal UK single trailing socket, So client can use normal light fixtures fitted with a BS1363 plug connected to a 2 amp round pin socket, to allow flexibility and easy hot-swapping of light fixtures without having to wire...

Vaillant Ecotec 937 plus - Flu fan constantly on, LCD dead, No heating or hot water - Common fault or not?

I should also add the outdoor unit stopped working after a few years, thus the Kw output of the boiler stopped getting modulated.

Vaillant Ecotec 937 plus - Flu fan constantly on, LCD dead, No heating or hot water - Common fault or not?

I replaced the VR470 because I wanted smart control of my heating from my phone and wider automation platform tieing into my Z-Wave and Zigbee stuff.

Vaillant Ecotec 937 plus - Flu fan constantly on, LCD dead, No heating or hot water - Common fault or not?

My understanding has all ways been (whether correct or incorrect) is that unless you are working on or opening components that involve gas or combustion, then you don’t need to be gas safe certified. At no point have I ever opened the combustion chamber (which I guess may need a new seal if one...

Vaillant Ecotec 937 plus - Flu fan constantly on, LCD dead, No heating or hot water - Common fault or not?

Update 2: Discovered now that the heating was constantly on after the engineers had left, despite the thermostat not calling for heat. TLDR, After a bit of investigation, I discovered the engineers had left the jumper link in place on the new PCB for the 24V thermostat option ("24V RT"...
