Connect record deck to HI FI amplifier (Ed.)

This must be a Mk1 Mira if is has Disc as the input name rather than Phono. As you probably guessed by the above, Disc is the input for a phono cartridge from a turntable without a pre-amp. I wouldn’t get too hung up on the name. A rose by any other name would smell as sweet.

Connect record deck to HI FI amplifier (Ed.)

The specs say it has a built-in phono preamp, so connect to anything except the Disc input. USB is for recording to PC. The internal conversion from analogue to digital isn't the best, and you'll use some of the de-noising features in the software to reduce pops and clicks. For this reason, I...

Connect record deck to HI FI amplifier (Ed.)

If it's the sort of record deck that cost under £100, and looks like it is built into a suitcase, it has its own speakers built in, and there's a red stylus on the business end of the tonearm, the any input on the Rega except disc. Any, but not disc. Do not use disc.. - Any questions? LOL...

    Inbuilt TV amplifier?

Yes, the TV will take passive speakers. That was the idea. You could do with some that are fairly sensitive to make the most of the available power from the TV. Aim for 89~91dB/W/m (A.K.A. 89-91dB at 2.83V). Regarding the sub, you'll need either a sub with a speaker level (hi-level) input, or...

Copying VHS to USB Memory Stick and Attaching "Modern" TV

Hold it fellas, before this gets any more off course. ;) Blocked heads don't usually result in no image at all. You might get a partial image with the rest a black & white scramble, but you should get something. No image at all suggests either a cabling problem or the TV not being happy...

    Virgin junction box

That's easy enough. @Jake2021 you'll need the HD100 compression connectors (eBay item 385786677464) and the same red handled compression tool as eBay item 186087539890. F connectors are more or less a hollow barrel with a screw thread collar on one end. There are no internal pins to worry...

    Virgin junction box

Webro HD100, which is the gold standard, if you will. There's a part roll on eBay atm, item no 116115672067, £20 + £4 del. Was a 100m roll, and by the look of it there's at least 30m left, so the £20 asking is good value. There's a lower grade tri-shielded coax available. It uses a steel core...

    What Distribution Amplifier - Sky&Freeview

The distribution amp has only one input for TV signals. It's the UHF input. The other one if for radio aerials - FM or/and DAB. If you're trying to connect the Sky RF2 Out into the FM-DAB connection then that will cause you problems straight away. The signal path is exactly like the diagram I...

    HDMI splitters

If you want something a bit better than the Chinese 'no brand' stuff then I have a CYP EL-31SY sitting here redundant. It's a 3-in:1-out switch. New prices range from £80 to £120. Cheapest s/h is one on eBay is £15, but that one has no power supply so that would be an extra cost. Mine has the...

    HDMI splitters

Each switch has an impact on the signal. It's like Chinese whispers. The original signal degrades. Eventually it reaches a tipping point we call 'the digital cliff'. This is the point where the losses mount up enough that the signal collapses. It's impossible to predict with certainty whether...

    T.v Aerial

His aerial will be one of the early wideband high-gain types from when there was panic about needing a 'digital aerial'. (There's no such thing.) All the dust has pretty much settled regarding changes to terrestrial broadcasting. They've spent almost two decades jugglingbaround frequencies...

    T.v Aerial

Beware double or even quadruple counting of elements. Marketeers like big numbers. Shoppers aren't experts, and so in the absence of any solid knowledge they fall back on numbers, because 'more is better, right?' This is how we end up with this being called a 48 element when it's nothing of the...

Recorded DVDs won't play on new machine.

Do you or your Do you or your friend have a laptop or desktop computer with a DVD-ROM drive? A computer will have an easier time of reading a disc, so if it is salvageable then this is the route. Once you/he has cracked reading the discs then the next stage is to make some copies. The first...

    TV Bracket Trouble

It looks like your original bracket was riveted onto the back panel. That's very unusual for a domestic TV. I'd normally associate that kind of mounting with some sort of high-security bracket. Anyway, to make progress here you're going to have to remove the back panel of the TV to get a look...

Sony TV XH95/49" and Virgin Tivo remote

If you followed the video, and the VM box detected the Sony TV, then offered codes for it from the onscreen display, then the issue is either the button sequence isn't being followed correctly (dodgy button, perhaps?) or the remote needs to be reset, then paired again with the box first. This is...

    Ideal Screen Size

Those who said you get used to whatever size are correct. IMO, this whole "correct screen size vs viewing distance" thing has got out of hand. In the rush to publish some kind of guide, too many websites forget to mention that their size recommendation is based on seeing the extra 4K UHD detail...
