Keeping regular boiler condensing on DWH cylinder

Ha. I didn’t even compute that as I’ve been thinking about getting that last 10 mins of the return flow into condensing. Maybe it’s the 80-20 rule. Should I even bother.

Keeping regular boiler condensing on DWH cylinder

Is it ok to use the pump gate valves to reduce the flow? I’d prefer to use them over the magna filter valves because there’s more turns so finer control. But was also considering which pump gate, before or after the pump, would produce less chance of cavitation.

Keeping regular boiler condensing on DWH cylinder

Saw this tip on the heatgeeks youtube. It looks like I was averaging 10.5-11 kWh the last couple of weeks, and early days but going around 9kWh now. Due mainly to being able to measure properly and turning down the flow from 70C to 62C.

Keeping regular boiler condensing on DWH cylinder

Hi all, Been playing around with these toys to measure flow temps on my basic Worcester Ri regular boiler with a single knob. I schedule heating the HW cylinder for an hour a day. Was able to reduce the flow temp to 62C while satisfying the HW cylinder demand. So far I’ve used about 1.5-2 kWh...

    ASHP cooling radiators

Hi all, I think my next boiler will be retrofitted with an ASHP and during this heat wave, I’m interested to know whether anyones been running theirs to cool their homes. How effective is the cooling on radiators setup? Condensation on the pipes? Any lessons that you can share?

How much water to expect from the overflow during air gap recharge of Megaflo cylinder?

From an owners perspective, it’s a job that I schedule doing twice a year. I don’t wait till it starts losing pressure, and always one or two nights before, turn off the heating so the water is cool and not lose energy. I’ve found that when I take the time to let the hot taps drain fully...

Geofencing, has anyone got it to work well?

Wiser uses IFTTT so it isn’t any better. Also because they use IFTTT, Wiser can’t support multiple devices where we’d want it to automate last out-turn off and first in-turn on. Tado, I believe, still supports geofencing across multiple devices.

Thames Water says 900 - 1,000 Litres Water Usage per day

Seems the first thing to do is to let the neighbour know that you’re turning off the water and ask them to test their their taps. Being London, they’re likely split multi units so check them all.

Looking for engineer for annual servicing around southeast London

It’s good to know that they’re registered, but I wouldn’t start by going through a directory. Frankly, I think that’s bad advice and the same as looking at a phone book or using one of those mybuilder sites. No telling whose competent or otherwise.

Looking for engineer for annual servicing around southeast London

Hi all. I’ve cancelled my BG service contract because the last few times they came out to ‘service’ the boiler and do other work, the quality was sub par. I’ve got a heat only Worcester boiler with a Megaflo unvented tank and the boiler I don’t think have been properly cleaned the last two...

Are specialist leak finding companies worth it?

Why don’t you pour a bottle of old fragrance in when you fill it back up and sniff it out?

Fridge freezer sounds like it has gastrointestinal issues

Yeah, funny noises coming from the refrigerator, in addition to the compressor, when it runs. I’ve checked and wiped the seals, vacuumed the back and cleaned the drain out. Soaked up about a kitchen towel’s worth of liquid. Haven’t defrosted it but had done it a few months ago. Fridge doesn’t...

    Kitchen to Office Conversion

Yes, flue less stoves. Looks great on my Zoom calls. Just needs a vent like the ones where the cooker hood exhaust fans out.

Insulating of boiler return pipe work

I’ve got a similar boiler that came with the house. They’re popular because of Bosch marketing and they got Which to promote them, but they’re basic and must have the seals replaced every 1-2 years. Anyways, 83C is the setting pegged to max. There’s no reference number or lines on the dial like...

Do you have an existing gas line for the cooler and exhaust vent? Look into a remote fluless stove.

    Buying double (triple) glazing

Thanks @ronniecabers! There’s a few more marketing terms that I wouldn’t have a clue. Can you add your thoughts on sight lines ( is there a diff if flush vs traditional), frame depth (is that the same as thickness) , upvc frames with half dozen chambers and metal reinforcement?

    Reduce pump startup noise

Folks, last summer my Grundfos UPS 25 55 180mm was replaced with its newer version, a UPS2 25 80 180 on my s-plan system. The BG engineer said that was the recommended replacement unit but I think it’s over powered. Anyways, I have it set on 1 and PP and system works fine… except that when it...
