It seems quite apparent you haven't read the thread, I don't believe there is a song and dance here, hasn't even been spoilt by our resident joker. The thread is running just as designed, to assist someone asking for advise.

    Light switch position

Thanks for the question I'd not thought about the situation. In the properties I've lived in there have been 5 such situations; 3 bathrooms & 2 WC's. 2 bathrooms & 1 WC were lock side, others being hinge side. My daughter had a property with bathroom and switch on lock side but the shower...

    Light switch position

Do you realistically open the door to 90°, I would say that I'd only open as far as needed as indicated by my first sketch and of course that may depend on which side one approaches from.

or a pull switch central to the door

    Light switch position

I get what your're saying John but can you do me a favour and try it at several doors, I mean really open and close them, enter and reach for the switch on both sides. I'd not given it a thought before.

    Light switch position

I agree but is the ease of wiring considered over the correct siting?

    Light switch position

Thanks all. My own opinion is also lock side and I have installed like that myself. The builder insists Hinge side is correct and the way he demonstrated made a lot of sense. Excuse my sketch but entering the room reaching forwards is easier, (the switch is almost in view) than backwards: He...

    Light switch position

Just had a discussion with builders and there is fairly random differences of opinion. Extention gone in and new door opening through the cavity wall. there is to be a light switch each side of the wall for the 2 different rooms. The side the door open into there is no doubt the switch goes on...

How to find a lighting fault?

The next check is to move the brown in the ceiing rose: That should put the light on when power is restored. If not you eoither have no power coming to the rose ore you have a faulty bulbholder or bulb.

How to find a lighting fault?

My first test would be to measure the voltage between the 2 reds and flick switches. it should be 230V at some time. Without a meter i'd link the 2 reds, either with a link wire (shown purple) or move the single red into the choc bloc. Either should put the light on when power is restored. If...

WHAT??????? Assuming the reds Haven't been mixed up that's wired correctly.

    The reality of a transformer

I haven't moved the goal post at all, it's the same device I've been describing all the way through, It is not designed to match the individual loudspeaker to the source impedance (although it can be used in that mode), it is intended to 'tap off' a specific amount of power (specified at maximum...

    The reality of a transformer

That's almost what this type of transformer does, ie it transforms the low impedance speaker impedance to a higher impedance Yes correct No I don't have any such spec's but I imagine they exist if I could be bothered to look on line. One could but it would be totally pointless to remove the...

    The reality of a transformer

Apart from not actually 'matching' the impedance you are correct (although it can of course be used that way). It is commonly called, and even listed as, a matching transformer. However it's usually used to tap power off a line rather than 'match' the power, in exactly the same way as a mains...

    The reality of a transformer

Somewhere along my editing I managed to delete the word 'nominated' I'd have thought the action of a 100V loudspeaker line thansformer would have been easy to understand. I even confirmed they transform; impedance, voltage and current No. the transformer I'm describing will typically have...

    The reality of a transformer

Well this is where it gets somewhat confusing. I have loads of transformers designed to transform 100V to a power into 4/8/16Ω. yes they do transform the low impedance to a higher, yes they are voltage transformers, yes they are current transformers, but the transformation will simply be...

    The reality of a transformer

Ah 3 posts to tell us you are referring to impedance. Which is why I wrote: Frequently impedance matching is irrelevant, especially in signal level audio where maximum power transfer is not required and sometimes undesireable, however voltage matching is more likely to be the requirement. As...
