    Replace Heating Controller

Thanks Pretty sure we get no hot water without the immersion heater though :-( I will follow the cables again and confirm. D

    Replace Heating Controller

Looking at the Hive installation guide it shows a common live and then CH ON and CH OFF are at positions 2 and 4 (see image attached). In my set up it shows that there is a live at position 3 and position 4. One of these goes to the boiler (position 4 I think) and one goes to the pump. Would I...

    Replace Heating Controller

What a comprehensive answer, thank you. I have added some photos of the controller and the wiring. There is no valve anywhere as far as I can tell. The boiler itself has a control to regulate the amount of heat output but there is no other thermostat. The hot water appears to only be an...

    Replace Heating Controller

Hi all, My central heating runs off an old oil boiler which uses a Siemens RWB2E controller and doesn't have a room thermostat anywhere. By the looks of it the controller only controls the heating as the hot water is an immersion heater with a separate supply. There are three cables to the...

    Add 2nd CU?

Thanks for the replies chaps. Electrician has been out this afternoon and had a look at what I want to do. He has suggested some changes and we have agreed a way forward. He is quite happy for me to pull all the cabling through and essentially do most of the first fix. He has also given me the...

    Add 2nd CU?

No, the pipe is not bonded unfortunately. Earths anywhere in this house seem very hit and miss!! I have begun to realise that I would be best getting a plan from a spark. Its just that I want to get the cabling in asap as I am on a bit of a deadline and its proven difficult to actually get a...

    Add 2nd CU?

The main incoming water supply is lead which then goes to copper so I assumed it would need earth bonding. I was therefore planning to pull an earth through all the way to this incoming pipe.

    Add 2nd CU?

Is the modern method now a supply coming into switch from previous light rose, cable up to new light rose, neutrals joined at the switch, and live split at the switch?? So in terms of cables I would have an incoming supply at the rose, a supply down to the switch position, a cable back to the...

    Add 2nd CU?

Hi all, I am refurbishing my house bit by bit and the next big job is fitting a new kitchen. The whole house needs a rewire and this will be done as I refurbish each area. The house is fairly big so cable runs can be quite long. A couple of years ago I had an electrician install a metal CU and...

    Holes in roofing membrane

Hi all I have a large garage under construction and it’s currently got a white membrane on covered by battens (not sure what you call it) on the roof. I had a fire in the garden and unfortunately the wind picked up and blew some embers over the roof and I now have a number of small holes in...

    Backing Coat - Wykamol

Just in case it is of any help to others I spoke to Wykamol and they said just mix SBR and water 1:1 and add some cement to make a slurry. Paint it on as a key for the renovating plaster coat.

    Ten Inch Skirtings

Spoke to the manufacturer this morning and to be fair they offered to replace them but I can't be doing with the hassle.I am now reducing the height of the shoulder with my power plane then gluing together. Done the first one and whilst its a bit annoying I am getting there.

    Ten Inch Skirtings

Maybe but they are only planed one side. I am going to have to look at routing a couple of mil off the back shoulder on every board!!

    Ten Inch Skirtings

Hi all I am just about to start fitting 10 inch Victorian style skirting boards to my living room. They come in 2 pieces with the moulded bit having a groove and the plain bit having a tongue. I have been experimenting with how best to join the 2 pieces and in doing so have discovered that...

    Backing Coat - Wykamol

Hi. Does Wykamol Renovating plaster need a backing coat of Universal Mortar when applying to bare brick? Spec sheet seems to suggest so but I am not 100% sure. Thanks D

    Damp course help

Thanks John The concrete does slope away and is in fact already about 9 inches lower than the internal floor - if you look at the pic with the sandstone in it the top is about level with the first course of brick on the internal. There is no water dripping onto it - also bear in mind ALL walls...

    Damp course help

Thanks. And is there any reason why I can’t damp proof the course above or below by drilling and pumping? Incidentally this is the only timber floor in the house and it does have good ventilation. I haven’t plastered any of the other walls yet so I could go around and inject them all in...
