    LED Tape light caught fire

The centre of the burn looks to me to be where a cut point would be, though it will hardly be heavily loaded near the end of the strip. Even if it was a poorly made internal factory join, I wouldn't expect enough arcing for a few small LEDs to start a fire. If the PSU can supply 100W that is a...

    Creda Comfortaire Replacement

Yes we have repaired quite a few of these over the years and don't often have problems getting parts. Stuck a new motor in one last year. What is the fault with yours?

    Toilet water level too low

A photo of the unit you have would help!

    Old A/B valve advice

Yes, though if there is enough working room the pipework can often be frozen to save draining. Don't forget to replace the inhibitor if the pipework is drained.

    Old A/B valve advice

Oh dear! In that case you will need to convert the system to use standard heating control components, probably to a 'Y' plan with a 3 port mid-position valve and a cylinder stat.

    Old A/B valve advice

The system installed is designed with super efficiency in mind, the Hive much less so. The system will require substantial electrical and mechanical alterations to install. I'd recommend calling a heating engineer. (Or leaving it as it is!) The 'burn marks' are likely just dust drawn in from the...

Any photos? Might help explain what system you have.

    Removing a double socket

Good vacuums those Dysons, just serviced one here. Incredible power for such a small size.

    Samsung Fridge Freezer

Most Samsung models have repair kits available to repair this type of fault. If you do it yourself, make sure you fit every part supplied in the kit. There was a number of recalls for Samsung fridge freezers a while back, check your model and serial number is not affected Samsung were modifying...

Implications of outer sheath cable damage on household appliance

You need to have the wiring tested now, as well as on a routine basis. There appears to be no RCD protection on any circuit except that one feeding the mineral insulated cable (which I hope is an RCBO!) The wiring should be tested/inspected every five years or change of tenant, whichever is...

Implications of outer sheath cable damage on household appliance

The tenants would have to be rather bloody stupid to not want the flexes replaced. I have no time for such stupidity so I'd just let them kill themselves. The large damages to vacuum cleaner flex was possibly caused by being mangled by the brushroller.

    Removing a double socket

I've just noticed my kitchen is the same, cooker switch/socket within 5mm from the edge of the hob. It really isn't a problem.

    Removing a double socket

It doesn't look 'added' it's part of a ring circuit with cables in different directions, the back boxes throughout are all fixed with the same nails etc. It looks very much part of the original wiring.

    Removing a double socket

The socket is close to the hob, but not something I'd worry about, it's not over it. I'd rather have the extra socket...

    Wifi switches: backbox size

    7) Having electronic devices all over the fixed wiring makes electrical testing a PITA. 8) I've seen more exploded electronic switches than mechanical ones. 9) Triac based electronic switches can be damaged when a bulb/lamp fails leaving the output permanently on.

    Wifi switches: backbox size

You can replace the back box with a deeper one. Spacer frames, sometimes called biscuit frames are available to go between the wall and the switch, but these often look untidy.

Honeywell Wiring Centre 42005748-001 S PLAN

It really bothers me the number of 'professionals' replacing parts without actually diagnosing the fault. I used to work in appliance repair before I was an electrician, I don't recall ever 'part swapping' instead of logically attempting to locate a fault. Of course the valve could have...

Honeywell Wiring Centre 42005748-001 S PLAN

In that case when the HW valve opens it will send power to the CH valve live motor terminal (brown) and in turn switch on the heating. It can't be switched off after this as this is after any thermostat (although yours has been bypassed.) It is likely that moving the orange wire to the orange...

Honeywell Wiring Centre 42005748-001 S PLAN

The HW valves orange wire is in the terminal marked white. Edit, too slow. White is obviously heating on for a 3 port valve but I can't work out what effect that will have with the various links cut in this unit.
