Appliance plugged into cooker socket shows earth leak

Just to update, wasn't clear where the cable went into the CU, its a bit of a mess. However, managed to determine the cable exited from the bottom which meant could identify the route. Put another break in the cable between the kitchen and CU and found the fault was near the CU under...

Appliance plugged into cooker socket shows earth leak

Small update. Cut the cable before the socket to see if it was bad behind the tiles and unfortunately not so the problem is further upstream. If earth is live surely it must not be correctly connected to the CU? Or is that not true. I can't see anything obviously wrong in the CU short of...

Appliance plugged into cooker socket shows earth leak

Cheers all. Its not the socket, I swapped it and the faceplate (metal) was live. Turned out was the earth conductor. Could be the sleeve or damaged live or fault in the CU or elsewhere in the cable.... Will check a few more things later this afternoon but all off for now. Microwave dinners it is!

Appliance plugged into cooker socket shows earth leak

Earth into the socket is 240v, live is 240v.. I'm a bit mystified how either the fault could suddenly appear or it could have been wired like that for the last 20 years?

Looks like 240v from the cooker and the socket. How have I never had a decent shock Disconnected the cooker and will see if I have a spare socket to rule that out.

Appliance plugged into cooker socket shows earth leak

I'm n The buzz stopped when I changed the element. (it was really mild). The red light on the screwdriver doesn't light if i plug the grinder into a socket the tester says is wired correctly. If I touched my coffee machine (metal) which is on a different socket to the grinder while the grinder...

Appliance plugged into cooker socket shows earth leak

Ok can see the cooker and socket share the same earth. I cant see anything wrong on the socket so would suggest either the cable is fooked (big problem), maybe the socket but seems a long shot, or the RCD connection?

Appliance plugged into cooker socket shows earth leak

Cheapo socket tester suggests L N reversed which is usually earth fault. Does it follow the oven is not earthed because the socket has the fault? The grinder I don't think is double insulated.

Appliance plugged into cooker socket shows earth leak

Hmm ok I thought it was common knowledge a duff element in an oven can cause earth leakage but you know best.

Appliance plugged into cooker socket shows earth leak

Hi, I get an earth leak (red light on screwdriver touched to appliance chrome casing) from a grinder plugged into a cooker socket. Its fine on another socket so I figure the socket is duff. It trips the RCD every so often too. I replaced the element in the oven a while ago as the cooker handle...

Miele WT2670 Washer Dryer Fan Assembly

Of course it's rounded off. Assuming I can dremel a slot in the screw and get it out have a ordered a new fan for £40, main gasket £20, lower gasket £10, plus delivery. Now, do I run the broken fan for next 10 days or find a friendly local launderette??
