You might, but apart from the new socket everything else is as it was. Is there supposed to be a vital grommet to stop the insulation rubbing?

Thanks for that. The outside surface of the bath, the that is supposed to stay dry is already quite rough. It looks like the rough side of a fibreglass boat for example. Would I need to rub that flat before applying the sheet and resin?

Ok thanks, that's good to know it can at least be mended. I've not used fibreglass matting before but I'm sure I can find out easily how to prepare and use it properly. So how big can the hole be before it's too big?

It's not that old, maybe 7 years. I'd have thought it'd have a good few years use left in it yet and maybe a bit of lube would keep it working but I take your point re emergency call outs. I guess the expense of a new cistern valve every 5 years is preferable to paying a plumber to come out at 3am.

Thanks :-) We tried that but it's slow going cold and draughty. Perhaps patience and perseverance combined with extra layers of clothing are all that's needed.
