    Garage door issue

Thanks all for the help. Turned out the Allen bolts were loose and all tension had been lost, along with a bent bracket on one side for the roller. Straightened the bracket and tensioned up and all working now

    Replacing felt roof

Hi all, Happy New Year Felt roof over garage & utility has seen better days and think next job when the weather is better is to replace it with epdm. It’s currently a cold roof and was thinking of changing the to a warm roof. What should the insulation thickness be…100mm pir? The size is...

    Gas fire with liner possible

Sorry should have said it’s a stainless steel pipe that’s attached to a terminal at the top abut is left loose at the bottom (behind back panel). It’s not a balanced flue as the chimney adjoins the dining room which had a stainless pipe in as well that was connected to an old floor standing...

    Gas fire with liner possible

What do you suggest? I was thinking of a gazco logic he which I should have mentioned I have from my previous place where chimney was removed…been sat in garage for a while. I think this was 89%+ efficiency…same as my valour home flame harmony that I have in another room.

    Gas fire with liner possible

Hi all Looking to get a gas fire installed in an unused fireplace…there was a plug there for an electric fire. It has a solid rear panel, and cutting into this has revealed a liner (guess it was used before at some point). I’ve had the liner swept and checked but before moving forwards and...

Blistering paint & mould on external wall

I understand no bathroom extractor can cause issues, but it’s been like this for ages and the issue has only started. I have a dehumidifier that runs in the hallway to remove all moisture. I will check the wall on the outside over weekend and fix any holes and look to paint it

    Exterior render painting prep

Hi folks Need to paint the cement based render in my house which is starting to flake. It looks to be a plasticy based paint. What is the best prep method to remove the loose stuff, there’s a fair amount of wall space??? Also any recommendations on paint to use to repaint it. Thanks

Blistering paint & mould on external wall

I have no idea, but don’t think it was. I’ve only been in the house last 6years. That was done well before my time. Will take a closer look on weekend when I get the ladders out, but looks to be either a T lintel or a plate. Having a look at the paint in daylight around the whole house it does...

Blistering paint & mould on external wall

It’s a solid wall. I’ll get some algae killer and look at paint. Was thinking of sandtex microseal Not sure what that tip actually is, not sure if it was out there as a bead when the loft was done (in the 80s) for the render

Blistering paint & mould on external wall

Thanks for confirming I had plans to renovate the house but these are on hold due to funds going elsewhere unexpectedly. For now I’ll take a look at the render in the weekend providing it’s dry. If all looks ok and just blistered paint, would it be worth repainting in a breathable paint?

Blistering paint & mould on external wall

Yes the render is old but doesn’t seem blown, I’ll need to get up to check closer when the weather is dryer. I need to check the tiles abutting the render, not sure if there is lead flashing behind…been like this for a long time before I brought the place and not caused any issues but may need...

Thanks. Seems strange it’s the only wall in the house with the issue and there’s other external walls. Unfortunately bathroom doesn’t have extractor, but window is left open most of the day
