    Automatic Curtain opening and closing.

We would like to convert two sets of window curtains into automatic opening and closing. The curtains are the eyelet style hanging on a brass rail (tube) with a central opening ie two curtains per window. I want to keep the existing curtains and rails etc and just add the auto mechanism. A quick...

    Slab loft insulation question

Well, I'm no electrician but being a bungalow basically built in late '70's from what I can see it is that a lot of cable appears be under the existing mineral wool with some later cables on the top.

    Slab loft insulation question

Could I just ask another question please. Rather than using slab insulation would the foil backed rolls offer a more effective insulation barrier ? Should be much easier to get in place. Bear in mind that we are in a bungalow so room ceiling is loft floor. Thanks Brian.

    Slab loft insulation question

I would like to add a little extra insulation into the loft of our bungalow. I can only access part of the loft space, not the whole lot due to the design of the building (later extensions to original build.) The roof is a low chalet style., I am not tall but even at the apex of the roof line I...

Smart meter, economy 7, basic tariff question.

If it helps we have an AMPY meter, picture attached. After the END cycle the numbers start again with RATE 4, the one shown. There is nothing to show which is DAY or NIGHT rate, we have always used the previous occupiers numbers and the energy company has never queried them. Can anyone please...

Smart meter, economy 7, basic tariff question.

At the moment we have what the previous occupier had, old economy 7 meter for electric, not a smart meter. If we change to a basic tariff (we have done the maths, it works for us) would we need the meter changing ? It would make sense that if we do need a different meter, a smart meter, then is...

Matt black kitchen tap in hard water area. Good idea or not ?

Many thanks, never thought about the aerator part. Wife was more concerned about the splash marks on the black finish, even if they are wiped down.

Matt black kitchen tap in hard water area. Good idea or not ?

As part of a minor kitchen makeover we want to replace the chrome kitchen sink tap with a matt black style. Only issue is NE Northants where we live has hardish limescale water. Will this quickly spoil a matt black tap ? If not then can any one recommend a decent tap brand as there appear to be...

New mower required. Cordless, SP but small.

Our old, large and heavy SP mower has really had it, well past its best and ready for the skip. We downsized house and garden a few years back so we just need a small mower BUT I now have a dodgy shoulder so the replacement machine must be self-propelled as the small lawn is inclined. Was...

Macallister Lawnmower Owner's Instruction Manual wanted.

Thanks, looks like it will have to be a similar model manual as the Macallister MLMP675SP51-3 manual just doesn't seem to be available anywhere.

Getting Loft insulation through a tiny hatch ??!!

Yes, it is tiny and no I can't squeeze through but two of the Grandchildren can (15 and 11). Agile and slight build. Ceiling rafters make it impossible to enlarge it. I am stuck with it ! Cheers Brian.

Getting Loft insulation through a tiny hatch ??!!

Thanks for the suggestions. I hadn't thought of re-bagging half a roll, that should squash better. I had considered opening and pulling through, Andrex style, but I could just see the roll tearing itself to bits. Cheers Brian.

Getting Loft insulation through a tiny hatch ??!!

I would like to top up the insulation above our 1980's built main bedroom extension. BUT the only access is through a tiny ceiling hatch. The opening is only 28cm x 42cm so does this mean that any roll of insulation, however squashed/compressed will just not fit through that space and I will...

Daikin Altherma. Idiots Guide to setting the schedule required please.

We have a Daikin Altherma air source heat pump for the hot water and c/h. The LT system is about 18 months old and has the digital controller with the round OK button in the centre, under the screen. Is it possible that someone can give me an “Idiot’s Guide” as to how to change the start time on...
