Stopcock - Repacking - Advanced - Graphite Rope / Nylon repacking

I'm very confused as to why graphite or teflon packing string is routinely available in the U.S - but extremely hard to find here (wras approved)? E.g: https://www.lowes.com/pd/Danco-0-09-Graphite-Bonnet-Packing/1085895

Stopcock - Repacking - Advanced - Graphite Rope / Nylon repacking

Would be interested on fellow members views/comments on this: I'm curious where I could purchase appropriate gland repacking material in the UK? (Don't trust ordinary ptfe tape to last long).

    Decent Quality Isolation Valves

Does the water meter outside most homes in london (where u can isolate the whole house) have the ability to block 'back-flow'? The house in question is a semi-detached - with a thames water meter outside on the pavement - with a round plastic access cover.

    Decent Quality Isolation Valves

Outstanding. Madrab - did you happen to come across arrows education section. They have numerous guides that cover both water regs and solutions. This is a pdf they have specifically on isolation valves, their construction, specifications and their place in water regs. It even speaks about...

    Decent Quality Isolation Valves

I've honed in on connex or pegler. However, since this is an exploratory subject - I'm curious who the maker of the poorly cast iso valve is. There seems to be a logo on the side. Asking the communities help in identifying the brand. Also - other than connex, pegler & wondervalve - are there...

    Leaking Isolation Valve

This will be of some use to you. I too, am fed up of leaking isolator valves that can't be relied on, when really needed. https://www.diynot.com/diy/threads/decent-quality-isolation-valves.586687/ The consensus is to simply buy quality units in the first place - or remove them altogether and...

    Y Strainer - Technical

Your points make perfect sense. I would like help understanding a couple of things: A) When the filter in the y-strainer gets blocked, naturally it will restrict the flow. My question is - Do combi-boilers have safety mechanisms in place, to shut off in such cases for CH flow? (Recently. My...

    Y Strainer - Technical

I have the origional adey 'twintech', (magnetic + guaze filtration). However it was royally slated for leaking & other aspects of its design. I'm trying to find a solution for effective filtering, of non magnetic debris from a CH system. Surely there are solutions out there?

Were you able to resolve this situation? How did you do it? What was the cause?

    Y Strainer - Technical

Yes this thread is more than two years old. But - it has value still. Given that technology has moved on - new system filter designs are reaching the market - specifically to deal with NON-magnetic debris in very old systems. I noticed adey have added a collar to the magnacleans - to trap non...

    Decent Quality Isolation Valves

It looks like this topic has been visited before: https://www.diynot.com/diy/threads/decent-quality-isolation-valves.324628/ There is alot of discussion about the original ballofix company (before it was sold) & a company called 'Cottam & Preedy'. They have also created an iso valve called...

    Decent Quality Isolation Valves

The video is from a company named Altecnic. After seeking videos from conex & pegler (options suggested on the thread) - I could not find any from them that explained the differences between Hq & Lq iso's. This video came up as a suggestion. In it, theory & engineering principles are directly...

    Fill Loop - Consequences.

This is where I'm at currently. I'm fearful of using a powerflush, as most of the pipework is behind plasterboard. What do you think about the following: A) Clean out the existing plate heat exchanger (SoS) & replace. B) Have PRV checked and replaced (if necessary). C) Drain out the CH...

    Decent Quality Isolation Valves

The responses on this thread have opened up the topic & expanded on the differences between brands/makes/quality. What's clear - is that decent isolation valves cost more for a reason. I came across this webinar on youtube from Altecnic. I am directly asking the community for their thoughts...

    Decent Quality Isolation Valves

One of the aspects you mention - PTFE stems seals & socket seals - seem to be one of the features that distinguish the better iso valves from the cheaper ones. Also - sealing the stem - the way it is done & maintained throughout the working life of the valve - would be something to consider.

    Decent Quality Isolation Valves

Yup, that guidance kinda put me off the freeflows. It's likely they are just covering their backs regarding locations with extreme scale. I'm seeking to understand the engineering differences between HQ isolation valves & LQ ones?

Thank you for sharing the website. This thread was conceived as an "Exploratory Topic". The purpose being to explore, unpack and overthink the topic - so that new angles can be explored and new insights gained. It's the knowledge expansion I'm after - not just a quick part recommendation...
