Leaking seals on low loss header - where can I get new seals from?

Hi Steve, I came across this post when Googling as I have exactly the same issue with what looks like the same LLH (Spirotech Spirocross AX100), but only one of my connections has a slow drip (from time to time). Interesting that it has also just turned 5 years old, which appears to be the age...

What causes tile adhesive to only have a short shelf life?

I have some Ultra TileFix ProFlex SPES flexible tile adhesive, which has been stored in the garage on a shelf since it was used in 2021. Even in an unopened bag it only has a shelf life of 12 months. I have 4 cracked floor tiles I want to replace and briefly thought about using this. What is...

New LED bulbs causing lights to switch off

I'm on a crusade to replace all halogen bulbs in the house at the moment and after I spent a couple of hours cleaning light shades and light fittings and replacing 16 halogen candle bulbs, my 24 year old son joked that I led an "Interesting life"! Fare enough, but I explained that I would...

New LED bulbs causing lights to switch off

10 years on and it would appear the "qualified" electricians choice of dimmer modules is costing me more!

New LED bulbs causing lights to switch off

Thanks for the info. I'll wait until I get the bulbs I actually ordered, the ones that Megaman say are a direct replacement for the 10 year old bulbs and see if they cause the same issue. If so, I'll either replace the dimmer modules or even get rid of them.

New LED bulbs causing lights to switch off

If 250W is the minimum load, I have no idea why they have worked so well all these years! They were purchased from TLC Direct and I even have the model number, but after 10 years I can't find that particular product, which is not surprising. I see the range of dimmer modules on TLC Direct tend...

New LED bulbs causing lights to switch off

Prior to the extension, we had 50W halogen bulbs, which were on a dimmer switch. When the electrician replaced all the fittings with LED he also had to replace the dimmers, so they would be compatible with the LED downlights. I have to assume he knew what he was doing and as we haven't had an...

New LED bulbs causing lights to switch off

10 years ago in 2014, as part of a kitchen extension an electrician installed 33 downlights into a large kitchen/sitting/dining area, configured as follows: kitchen area: 15 downlights with an on/off switch and a separate dimmer switch (2 way) sitting area: 12 downlights with dimmer switch...

Can a new circuit be added to this old CU?

I guess there is something similar in England as a few years ago my wife arranged for some additional wall hand rails to be fitted and it was all done free of charge. This came about as we witnessed a couple of "wobbles" by her 92 year old father as he was descending the stairs via the Ring...

Can a new circuit be added to this old CU?

Unfortunately, they both have dementia and have carers visiting them three times a day, so moving them to a hotel wasn't possible and there was no way I was having them move in with us as that may have been the thin end of the wedge :giggle: To be fair, I was aware of the half hourly fee before...

Can a new circuit be added to this old CU?

Thanks for the responses regarding the additional CU circuit, I have managed to get hold of an electrician so I will talk the options through with him. Slightly off topic, but still related to the original issue, I finally got a chance to nip around to my in-laws and check what the expensive...

Can a new circuit be added to this old CU?

Yes, £1,104 for 5 hours work. A company called Able Group. We are in West Yorkshire. It was a same day call out as my elderly in-laws were without heating until the tripping issue was fixed. I was reasonably okay with the first bill of £441.60 for 2 hours work to fix the issue, but when it...

Can a new circuit be added to this old CU?

I have no idea who/when that MCB was fitted, or even what circuit it controls. It does look like a couple of additions have been made over the years as the one next to it, although branded Wylex, doesn't appear to be the same as the original MCB's. When the electrician first visited, as well...

Can a new circuit be added to this old CU?

The house is around 40 years old, so obviously an old CU that wouldn't meet todays specifications. I assume you are therefore saying that means no work can ever be done on this CU, so it would need to be replaced or worked around by adding a second CU.

Can a new circuit be added to this old CU?

My elderly in-laws had an RCD tripping issue last week and it took two visits by a very expensive electrician and 5 hours work to identify two wall sockets in the utility room had been scorched and were causing the RCD to trip. It would appear that many years ago, a kitchen installer extended...

    What type of retaining wall?

It was hard work, but finally got the paving slabs in place, each one set on a bed of mortar: Next weekend, weather permitting, I hope to hire a cement mixer and mix enough concrete to fill some of the trench on either side of the slabs to ensure they are fully supported. Then the soil will...
