    Adding an extra light

Good point. I’ll surface mount the cables on top of the cladding. I was going to see I could put the junction box in the ceiling with a small access panel.

    Adding an extra light

Yes, the lights are going in the porch, either side of the existing position. I’ll be putting some match board cladding up so I can hide the cables behind. It’s a timber ceiling, but I’m wanting to put some insulation in it so I’ll be able to get a junction box up there.

    Adding an extra light

That's scary, it must have been like that for 20 years then as I've never touched it up to now. Does my drawing look OK or is it wrong?

    Adding an extra light

Is this right? On the current light the live seems to go to the neutral and vice versa. Why is that?

    Adding an extra light

I need to take an old internal porch wall light down and replace it with two other wall lights. How do I do this? There's no earth terminal on these lights either.

    Loft legs/stilts alternatives?

It’s been asked before but is there any alternatives to raising the loft floor to accommodate additional insulation? 70% of the loft is boarded with 22mm chipboard and a ton of crap loaded on it! No issues with loading over the last few years. I’m getting the insulation topped up to 270mm so...

How do I protect external fairy light cable? - or attach conduit to a weatherproof enclosure?

Thanks for all your input. I'm just gonna wrap it with some spiral binding which should be enough to give it a little more protection.

How do I protect external fairy light cable? - or attach conduit to a weatherproof enclosure?

I put the plug in a weatherproof enclosure but I'm having doubts about the life of the cable. It's very thin and I know it'll end up getting snagged at some point if left dangling out of the enclosure. I was going to put the cable into some conduit but how do I connect the conduit to the weather...

Is this permission still in place?

I'm waiting to receive the planning documents for the swimming pool. Although the pool building is attached to what was the shop, if there's any mention in the plans that the use of the building is to support the pool (changing rooms etc) then I'd consider that the class has been changed back to...

Is this permission still in place?

I'm still waiting to hear back from the planners about the swimming pool application, with the submitted documents. Having read through the latest planning submission, it seems that the tenants want to use the building for a coffee shop.

Is this permission still in place?

The work started, the fish and chip shop opened for less than 6 months in 1987 then shut down. There has been no further commercial activity in that building or anywhere within the residential curtilage for 36 years.

Is this permission still in place?

There are no planning documents online for this pool application, so I need to call the planning department today and get them to search through the microfiche and get me a copy.

I did, they didn't know and said they needed to investigate - so still waiting.

Is this permission still in place?

Local residential property had an outbuilding that was granted planning permission in 1987 for a fish and chip shop. Local people tell me that it lasted 6 months then closed down due to not being financially viable. In 1998, there was an indoor swimming pool granted planning that was attached...

Pergola walkway on a slope advice please

So the paving will fall (which works out about 1:65 anyway) and the brick pillars will be level and then once the posts are in I can decide if I should level the beams or have them fall based on the surroundings.

Pergola walkway on a slope advice please

I have a pergola walkway planned that drops 140mm over 9m to fall in line with the slope of the garden. There are 5 posts (per side) over the 9m with brick plinths built around the base. What's the best advice in dealing with the slope? 1. Should the entire structure be sloped parallel to the...
