Ahhh. So I’ve pulled them down and have this terminal block. I assume I can detach the plug end from this terminal block and just wire all the relevant wires to the new alarm. So no need to cut the plug end off? Cheers.

The old alarm has a block which the wires are currently going into. I’ve unplugged this block from the old alarm. But the new alarm just has a standard terminal block for bare wires to go into - like a plug or other electrical appliance. How do I get the block off so I can wire in the new alarm?

Ok thanks. When I connect the supply cable, the light does come on fine. But it stays on. When I connect up the switch cable, it trips. So at the moment (as per the picture) the light is on. How do I connect the switch up? Appreciate your help.

I’ve Googled what an MCB is and yes, it’s one of those. I’ve put the neutrals into the neutral terminal and that’s why the switch is tripping. So where do the live and neutral go from the switch?

The random extra cable seems to go into the switch in the conservatory to control a combined light/ceiling fan.

so by that, it can go in the live terminal block on the light fitting with the power live? and the random extra cable that I don’t know what it does can go in there too?

I’ll try and get a pic tomorrow in natural light. On the new light fitting there’s literally just live and neutral, nothing else. There’s also almost no room to put a terminal block in there if that’s what I need to do.

There’s literally no other lamps nearby and the cable goes downwards so it’s like it’s not connected to another light. So where would the switched live need to be connected? Would it be with the other lives? Appreciate the responses.

The only place could be the kitchen but it’s furthest away from the sockets and would have to go underground. There’s one double socket in the conservatory that does work but it’s wired to an isolation switch on its own. Nothing else.

Thanks for the replies. The cables were just cut off, not stripped as though they were connected previously. I reckon they are disconnected at the other end otherwise they’d have been connected to a terminal block for safety? No sockets on the outside walls either. Is that what I’m looking...
