    New heating system weird behaviour

It's looking like the issue was the lever on the diverter valve actuator was catching on the foam around the cylinder. He's cut the foam back now, so hopefully that will help.

    New heating system weird behaviour

Didn't exactly admit he did wrong. He actually said that Boxt will have to pay him more to come back and sort it out. Don't see why they should if by the sounds of it, he cocked it up. But not my money paying for him, so don't care. Hopefully get him round this week.

    New heating system weird behaviour

Turned out my theory was wrong. Heating engineer said he needs to come back and do some repiping. Something to do with the towel rail in he bathroom. Don't quite understand though. I know initially the towel rail came on with the hot water. Now it comes on with the central heating which is...

    New heating system weird behaviour

Could it be that as the pumped shower is emptying water from the cylinder, the boiler is fired to replenish the hot water in the cylinder. All normal. But there is some issue with the controls, telling the diverter valve to send hot water to the rads. Although, in this case sounds like the...

    New heating system weird behaviour

I think it only does it when the shower comes on.

I will but do you have any suggestions what he could have done wrong? Or what the issue would be?

    New heating system weird behaviour

Have just had a conventional boiler and cylinder system installed with sealed central heating pressurised filler tank (rather than old style small header tank). Had it a week and am finding that when the central heating is off but someone has a shower, the upstairs radiators come on. The...

Trv valve off but radiator not cooling down

Just had complete new boiler installed and as part of that had all radiators fitted with brand new trv valves and lockshields. However, am finding that when the trv is set to off for a particular radiator when the heating is on, that radiator is not cooling down at all. Same for all...

    Cold water header tank lid

I have an old 1960s rectangular plastic cold water header tank. Currently it has some old planks of wood on top and some thin plywood on top of that. All very mouldy. Id like to get a proper lid for it. Preferably plastic. It measures 880mm x 790mm. Any ideas? Thanks

Brown water from hot water taps

Was hoping for better after job customer service from the big companies as I typically haven't got from the local people I've used in the past. Basically, fixing any issues. Time will tell though. You might see me slagging off British gas or Boxt on here in a few weeks.

Brown water from hot water taps

British gas Quoted me £5723 for 15kw WB conventional boiler in the larder cupboard. Waiting time of 3 weeks. Awaiting Boxt to try and do better. They can fit in a few days though. Had never heard of Boxt until recently but my research shows them coming out better than British Gas in all respects.

Brown water from hot water taps

Thanks. Certainly does make maintenance difficult. The CH header tank sits right above the cold water tank ball valve. When I've woken up I'll take another look and go through your message on detail. Things should all get resolved when I get the whole system and all tanks etc replaced. Got...

Brown water from hot water taps

Many thanks. Interesting reading. The house was built in 1965 to give you an idea of pipe ages. The CH header sits on a plank directly on top of the large DCW header tank. That strikes me as strange and not a good idea. The expansion pipes are set up correctly. The water in the DCW header is...

Brown water from hot water taps

In this case the water is pushing its way into the cold water tank, except the water in there is a bit warm now. When that tank was full, it did overflow.

Brown water from hot water taps

Great advice and info. Thank you. Am planning on replacing boiler system and associated parts soon anyway.

Brown water from hot water taps

Discovered the cause of the brown water. The CH header tank was full of rusty water from expansion pipe due to old boiler, plus sediment. When I had the CH drain valve seal fixed (due to leak) the heating engineer bunged the CH header tank. Some water was lost when fixing the drain valve seal...

    Combi or Conventional Boiler

Any rough idea how much a conventional boiler replacing back boiler, fitting all new parts, tanks, cylinder, extra piping, the lot would cost? Just preparing myself for the shock of Monday's quote.
