    Combi system valve change

Big cast iron rads removed to restore parquet flooring and on re installation son wants trv's instead of manual valves. No access to sub floor to see if there's a drain cock so I guess I will have to rig up a hose to the manual valves individually to drain down before replacement. Not worked on...

    Plasterboard adhesion?

What should I use to stick plasterboard to a wall that used to be on the outside skin. The old plaster from around the 1980's came off very easily so maybe an adhesion issue to external brick faces. I have some knauf plasterboard adhesive, will this be OK or is there a better product or primer I...

    Which studwall insulation?

While installing a new stud wall in my 1930's 3rd bedroom extension to make an ensuite I thought I would add some insulation but unsure which would be best. Stud wall is 89mm deep so was going to fit 75mm celotex. Would this be OK and help keep the ensuite warm or are there better alternatives...

    Noise after change of use

Yes we've informed them that we hear them all the time but it makes no difference. I find it strange that noise as a result of this relocation/ extension of a kitchen area is not considered. I know we can report the noise issue to the council but know this has to be disclosed when moving which...

    Noise after change of use

My neighbours have had a large extension to the rear of the adjoining 1930's semi and removed the wall between the kitchen and dining room. They then moved the location of the kitchen to the adjoining wall removing the existing chimney breast. We put up with 6 months of building work which I...

    Ideal Classic LX FF260 fan

@ Harry many thanks. The pipe stat hasn't been adjusted and the pump running only was noticed 2 days ago so it must have been ok before. Its set at 45' should it be set higher? Are these known to go faulty/out if calibration. I'll adjust upwards to see if it turns off the pump.

    Ideal Classic LX FF260 fan

The boiler in question is at my daughters house and after I've had a proper look it's not the boiler after all but the pump is running hours after the boilers been on for hot water. Anyone have any ideas what can cause this.

    Ideal Classic LX FF260 fan

Anyone know why fan is running all the time when neither Ch or hot water are on. It's also making an irritating whirring sound otherwise I doubt I'd have noticed as it was very quiet before. I guess its a board that controls its operation.

    External insulation coating

My daughters recently acquired 1900's brick built semi has external insulation mainly on the large gable end. Unfortunately it wasn't picked up on the survey that the coating that covers the insulation is bubbling up in many places. My plan is to strip off all the old coating and re coat but...

    Homeboost

I'm on a shared supply (1930's semi) and despite my complaints to Yorkshire Water about low pressure when my neighbour is using the water supply they refuse to do anything about it. The have tested the flow rate which they say meets minimum requirements but the test was carried out when no...

    Loss of mains water pressure

Little stones were in the stopcock and had also blocked the inlet gauze on the pcv. Thanks for the input.

    Loss of mains water pressure

That's what I'm thinking, either rubber washer come off stopcock or blockage in the prv. Do prv's have a filter.

    Loss of mains water pressure

Daughters newbuild house had a leak in the upstairs bathroom today, no isolator valves on the offending taps and stopcock not fully shutting off so turned off at the water meter stopcock in the street. On turning both back on the gauge on the pressure reducing valve eventually goes upto 4bar but...

    Old boiler replacement

With the rising cost of gas is it worth replacing my 1989 Ideal mexico 2. The boiler has been very reliable having only 2 issues gas valve and pilot light thermo couple in all that time so I'm reluctant to get rid. Everyone I know with a combi has had expensive trouble with there combi's but...

    3rd bedroom extension over carport

My 1930's semi 3rd bedroom was extended back in the 70's, the extension has a carport underneath. The underside of the extension floor joists /carport ceiling has what I believe to be asbestos sheet attached with no insulation. What's the modern alternative in this types of installation today, I...
