    Extender under upvc cill

These are the Deceuninck ones so it does look possible? I need about 25mm. Long story short: was built in 1930s as an open porch but subsequently had timber frames put in: sloping part was to take rainwater way away from front door.

    Unsquare opening and French Doors

Thanks for that. It's the "making good" I am concerned about. What if there is a 35-40mm difference? I know similar properties in our road have a timber sub frame but I don't really want to do that.

    Unsquare opening and French Doors

I have previously fitted upvc doors and windows. We want to replace existing timber door and sidelights in our porch with upvc french doors with no sidelights. Have started measuring. The opening is not square and uneven. The difference between highest horizontal and lowest horizontal is...

    Upvc French Doors

Hi. We are going to replace our rotton porch door and sidelights. Would like to have upvc replacement something like this: Should I be concerned about any wobble because it has a fanlight? Would this be fabricated in one piece? Should the top horizontal of the door frame be...

    Quality bathroom suites?

Has anyone any suggestions for quaility WC and basins? I am looking for a matching WC and pedestal basin in a "traditional" style. Searching online I see that the same items are for sale under different "traditional" names, with no mention of manufacturers' names. I write after returning a...

Joining Basin Waste to Shower Waste

Just a quick one. I would like to join a 32mm basin waste to a 50mm shower waste pipe using a swept tee. There is a 1:40 fall on the 50mm pipe. One problem I see is that the centres between vertical basin waste and shower trap is only about 575mm. Any advice please? Thanks

    New Laminate Floor

I would like to lay laminate flooring. Width is about 3.5m. Against one wall will be a heavy Edwardian dresser. Against the opposite wall is one of those massively heavy, floor-standing cast iron radiators. Would I have problems with expansion / contraction with these heavy items? Thanks

Honeywell ST9400C timer and no hot water

For a long time we have had both hot water and heating set to constant, with heating also controlled by room stat, which we turned down at night time. No probs at all throughout autumn and winter. We get hot water and heating together. We get hot water only or heating only. It seems as if...

Honeywell ST9400C timer and no hot water

Hi We had new system installed about 18 months ago: Vaillant ecotec plus 624 system boiler, 2x 2 port Honeywell valves (one for hot water and 1 for heating) and an ST 9400C timer. Have just noticed that when I programme the timer, if I set the hot water to come on at a time later than the...

Tanking - Tilesafe and Bal WP1

I shall soon be tanking a small shower room: Tilesafe on the floor and Bal WP1 on the walls. In this instance, should I tank the walls first and then do the floor? I assume that I would get a better seal with the the 75mm wall section of tilesafe on top of the Bal coating, rather than...

    Tiling a diagonal wall?

Thanks for that. I can see that tiling it could be a bit of a faff for something that may not look so great. I am now leaning towards putting up upvc panelling instead...

    Tiling a diagonal wall?

Thanks for that. Or is it more of a case of how good is the substrate that the tiles are fixed to? For instance, if one was to tile a sheet of plasterboard that was leaning against a wall, then I can see that not much would happen. However if same sheet was fixed to a ceiling without adequate...

    Tiling a diagonal wall?

I'm going to tile the en suite of a new loft extension. One side of the shower area is under the roof rafters. It is currently finished in plasterboard and skim. I know that max tile and adhesive weight for this background is 20kg / m2 if it is vertical. Any idea what max weight would be...

    Pump head

We are getting a loft extension soon and some time after a replacement combi boiler, to be located on the ground floor. Current boiler is a Wocester Greenstar 24i, which I see has a head of 2meters. Does this mean that the existing boiler could have a problem pumping central heating to...

quick question re central heating in loft extension

A new loft extension is to be built. Combi boiler on ground floor. 1st floor has 22mm pipes teeing off to 15mm for radiators. At least 16ft of pipework needs to be teed off from 22mm pipes on first floor to supply radiator(s) in new loft extension. Should this be 22mm or 15mm? Thank you.
