    Running Hue Cables underground

Philips Hue (proprietary I think) Low Voltage cabling. I have the 5m lengths mostly, and would look to join any connectors above ground again if required...

    Running Hue Cables underground

Hi all, I’ve got a number of Hue lights dotted around the garden. At the moment, the cables are running across the flowerbeds and the grass in one place, and so I’d like to bury these if at all possible. I’ve been toying with the idea of running the cable through 25mm either galvanised or PVC...

Sticking small parquet blocks back down

Amazing - thank you @opps for the super quick reply!! Having checked my stocks, the only CT1 I currently have is in white - whilst not expecting this to be visible, I may swap for some exterior silicone I also need to open and use for some other jobs if that seems ok? (It does say ok to use on...

Sticking small parquet blocks back down

Good evening all. Per some other threads, I am currently knee deep in trying to restore a 1950s parquet floor that has been hidden and unloved. Mostly sanded now, but there are a few blocks that are loose (to the point they could be teased out gently with the hoover). My question is whether...

Can you successfully sand and re-finish parquet floor that is affixed with bitumen?

Thank you @Tigercubrider ! Do you know if this was a varnish (vs their oil/lacquer products please)? Many thanks!!

Can you successfully sand and re-finish parquet floor that is affixed with bitumen?

Thank you all for the replies. To confirm current state, I have sanded down the existing floor and it is looking lovely. However, I'm expecting that I should use some sort of varnish or oil to protect it now that it's looking decent - but am concerned about any interaction with whichever...

Fixing shelving in plasterboard alcove (Ed.)

What's the other side of the plasterboard? Presumably some sort of stud wall?

Can you successfully sand and re-finish parquet floor that is affixed with bitumen?

Hi @OldKettle, did you ever have any success here please? It would appear I'm in exactly the same situation - 1950s house - lovely parquet floor hidden under some carpet tiles and just the one small block loose that showed the bitumen base!

    Bitumen coming through Parquet flooring

Appreciate that this is a very old thread, but seems to be most appropriate for the situation we are currently in! Having just discovered a lovely parquet floor (hiding under some carpet tiles) where the parquet blocks also appear to have been laid with a bitumen (or bitumenous type substance)...

Best way to fix this chip in wooden chair?

If the rest of the paint around it is solid, I would be tempted to touch up with a bit of white paint and forget about the rest. As Wayners has said, I strongly expect sanding etc could make it worse. Particularly as painting a larger area should probably done with a sprayer to get the same...

Replacing ring mains sockets & Wago question

Happy New Year all (think it's just about acceptable to still say this almost a week in?) I'm looking at replacing a number of our white plastic sockets with some stainless steel Schneider Lisse models. Most of these will be on a 32A ring mains. From the research I've done, I believe (but...

What is an acceptable level of damage to insulated plasterboards?

Thank you all for the comments. I did end up keeping them as is - on the Saturday when I then came to use them, then discovered that I'd actually been sent 52.5mm thick boards rather than the 62.5mm boards ordered! But thank you all for the very prompt responses as always!!

What is an acceptable level of damage to insulated plasterboards?

I’ve just had a couple of 62.5mm Kingspan K118 delivered. C. £100 ea so not cheap certainly. There is damage to the faces, edges and corners of both boards, but I’m unclear as to what level may be considered acceptable (if at all). I’ve posted a couple of pictures - and would be extremely...

    Best scribe tool?

Looking to scribe some acoustic wall panels and PIR boards to get as flush a finish as possible to some not so straight walls over the coming weeks. What scribe tools would you recommend? I have the Tracer pencils (which I get on with), but their scribe tool seems *very* plasticky. The Trend...

Acoustic Wall Panel + Extra Insulation

Again, thank you Wayners - really appreciate the guidance. (I'm a very keen DIY'er, but as a bit of a perfectionist and having never done this before, I apologise if I'm asking tedious questions!!). The Acoustic Wall Panels that I'm considering are these...

Acoustic Wall Panel + Extra Insulation

Thank you so much for the quick response @Wayners ! I'm now considering upping the insulation on this one wall to 50mm, or alternatively 50mm insulated plasterboard (given this is all before it is decorated, I may as well go for some thicker stuff now). Given we're intending to have the...

Acoustic Wall Panel + Extra Insulation

Good evening all, We have a small north-facing downstairs room which we have turned into an office. On one of the external walls, we’ve been considering putting up a few of the wooden acoustic panels for both aesthetic and acoustic reasons (the room turns into a bit of an echo chamber if on a...

    SDS Question

Good evening everyone. I’m currently having to use my SDS Drill (Dewalt DCH273) to slightly widen the hole of a very old 4” extractor fan duct. I’m currently using an angled chisel to just gradually remove bits along the side of the hole, and generally have been seeing progress… HOWEVER, I’m...

    Small discreet aerial options

We’ve recently moved into a property with no aerial sockets at all. However, we are less than 1/2 mile away from the Crystal Palace transmitter, and so I’m after any recommendations for aerials that may be extremely small that can just plug into the TV. Something like this if these actually...
