The Valiant doesnt support OpenTherm protocol?... which would allow modulation etc, a d is the protocol Nest, Tado, Hive etc all support.

OK, so, in the end, I left the jumper in place, read thru the Alpha installation manual again - it states in case of OT controller, you have to go into the service menu and set the boiler for OpenTherm control AND the jumper needs yo be in place on terminals 1 and 2.

So, I decided to go for the TadoX boiler controller, to replace my old google nest. the wiring for the controller back when I had Nest in olace, had a jumper between terminals 1 and 2 on the Alpha boiler (in addition to the 2 opentherm cables coming from the nest heatlink) - see attached...
