    Cable for 32a / 6.3KW double oven

It was posted 2 months ago. Hardly out of date. The video clearly shows a neon uses a quarter of one watt.

    Cable for 32a / 6.3KW double oven

I see nothings changed while I’ve been away and Winston is still telling lies. Watch this video where they test neon power usage. 52 PENCE per year to run a neon. Skip to 2:20

    SPDs on commercial installations

Thanks Adam that’s been really useful, and funny you should mention EV charging as the upgrade has been designed with this as a thing which may happen further in the future.

    SPDs on commercial installations

I’ve been asked to act as a consultant between the contractor and the client at a charity run community centre who are looking to replace their incoming mains distribution. The job comprises of installation of a new 250A TP&N Schneider panel board feeding submains to approximately nine...

    Electrics and lintels

I'd be concerned about the cable getting damaged when the corner bead gets attached for plastering.

Metal clad back box with square corners

It’s just personal preference really. I guess I’m old fashioned. I think the one plugwash linked to is looking favourite thanks.

Metal clad back box with square corners

Hello all I’m trying to source a metal clad back box with square corners to mount a fire alarm call point on in a steel conduit installation. As you can see it looks a bit rubbish on a box with round corners, especially an MK box with the flanged lip. Something like this box with it’s...

    400w SON replacement

You see this is where real world experience proves book learning and quoting specs of a poorly designed product to try and show how clever you are wrong. You also forgot about ballast inefficiency but never mind. I recently designed a project in a sports hall which was previously lit by 15x...

    400w SON replacement

I’ve got a commercial property which has a car park lit with 400w SON floodlights using a mixture of white and orange lamps. They have asked me about replacing the existing lights with LED fittings to reduce energy usage and maintenance. The customer is happy for all the new lighting to be...

Is this the norm now days

Personally I’d rather go with what my electrician recommended which will definitely be suitable, rather than go with what some stranger on the internet, who by the way is not an electrician and never has been, reckons might be suitable but doesn’t have to deal with the consequences if it isn’t...

    Immersion heater blank

Yeah I’ll give RM a call and see what they suggest. Just out of curiosity would the same occur with PRVs as all the unvented stainless cylinders I wire up appear to have brass PRVs or are they actually made of a different material?

    Immersion heater blank

I’m assuming it was installed by a qualified person as it’s original to the house which was built in 2013

    Immersion heater blank

Thanks. I’m in Yorkshire and we don’t really have any problems with limescale here so dissimilar metals sounds likely. The rest of the cylinder is spotless inside. It’s an unvented cylinder.

    Immersion heater blank

I’m not sure to be honest but I’m reluctant to re-use it due to the amount of corrosion it’s showing on both sides. Any idea what would have caused it to corrode like this?

    Immersion heater blank

Hello I have an RM stainless hot water cylinder installed in 2013. The immersion heater brass blanking plug has corroded through and started to leak. I measured the plug and it’s about 2 1/4” across and saw that Screwfix do a 2 1/4” blank plug, but it is too big for my cylinder. here’s a...

Is there a reliable flush mount ceiling occupancy sensor anyone could recommend?

Sounds like you’ve installed microwave detectors if they are triggering with the door closed. You would maybe be better off installing a PIR detector instead. As already mentioned, timeguard are a good make. I look after a site with lots of them an they seem very reliable. Also they use relay...

    Unusual item

I was snooping around in our main LV switchroom today and spotted this: We have a 2kA per phase supply fed in to our panel board from an 11kV sub at the other side of the wall in the picture (to which we don’t have access) The cable from the break glass unit disappears through the wall into...

does 6mm bonding to water pipe have to changed ..

It depends on the supply type to the property, but it will often be replaced as part of the consumer unit replacement works
