Hi all, I'd like to do a favour for a friend by cleaning the inside of this bath. I'm not sure what or why this discolouration is happening. Any thoughts welcome.

Replacing freestanding gas oven with separate hob/cooker

Annoyingly yes. I judge from the question that this will need upgrading to a 6mm2 ?

Replacing freestanding gas oven with separate hob/cooker

What I find confusing is that the cooker switch does not say what the amperage is and it does not say what amperage the single socket is either. But then again neither do these ...

Replacing freestanding gas oven with separate hob/cooker

Ok, so I've had a chance to take a better look at what is here. The photo is showing the cooker switch with a single socket but there is no 13amp fuse, only a switch for the cooker and a switch for the singe socket. A double socket then spurs of that cooker socket onto the other side of the...

Do Howdens cut worktop to size ?

Thanks everyone. As a secondary option I may only be opting for a short length of worktop (less than 1metre) and not replacing the full length of worktop after all. What are the odds of finding a small length of worktop offcut for this purpose ? I may only need enough to cover a 600mm housing...

Do Howdens cut worktop to size ?

Hi all, I'm sorry to ask this on the forum but being Sunday Howdens is closed.. I'm eyeing up a section of worktop. The minimum size lengths of worktop that they sell are 3 metre lengths, but I forgot to ask whether they can cut them to size upon request.. Question is : do they ? Failing...

Replacing freestanding gas oven with separate hob/cooker

It's a Zanussi ZOB31301XK I've looked everywhere but I can't see what wattage this oven is

Replacing freestanding gas oven with separate hob/cooker

I like your thinking. No it doesn't have a 13amp plug but I can fit one. Plugging the gas hob into the double socket would be a better idea I suppose. Would wiring the gas hob into the connection unit with the cooker be acceptable though if I was to choose that option?

Replacing freestanding gas oven with separate hob/cooker

Hi all, For illustrative purposes I have drawn a diagram here: I am installing a new electric oven to my mum's kitchen as she has a very old freestanding gas oven which has reached the end of it's life and she wants something more modern. I want to make sure I am getting the wiring correct...

    Sharpening multitool blades

Hello, There are some excellent tutorials on the subject of blade sharpening : However, what if your blades are so blunt that there is no gullet ? Some of my old and very mistreated multi tool blades are so blunt that there is nothing left of the teeth, and I cannot make enough of a key in...

Planning permission for wood burning stove or DIY

Thanks everyone for commenting. I'm interested to know why a wood burner needs to be monitored like an open fire would? It is an enclosed burner, so why can it not be left unattended ?

Planning permission for wood burning stove or DIY

Hello all, I'm contemplating making an opening into the fireplace in one of my bedrooms at the lowest point in the house and intend to fit a 5k log burner in anticipation that the heat will rise through the house. I will have the chimney swept plus a smoke test. And will find out if its first...

Wall mounted letterbox - base rusting out, any tips on possible repair?

I fitted a wall mounted post box like this for a tenant a few years ago and it took less than 3months for the flap to be ripped off its hinges. I've had the same thing happen with a normal letter box when the post 'person' couldn't be bothered to knock on the door and tried to force an...

how to strip paint on old stairs

Like Job says the old Nitromors is a lot better than the new version. But the new version will work. I've not tried caustic soda. There is another product you could try called 'PeelAway' which I've seen being used, but not used personally. I can vouch for the Nitromors but it will need many...
