Persistent smell from new GRP roof via plastic skylights

I see - is acetone safe for pouring down waste pipes? I'm worried that if it's not removed, the resin will just keep stinking forever.

Persistent smell from new GRP roof via plastic skylights

This seems to be the case indeed. There is a rain outlet on the roof that seems to lead somewhere inside the building (the drainage system I'm guessing). The roofers admitted they must have dropped some resin into that hole and since it's stinking, it must have not been mixed properly. They...

Persistent smell from new GRP roof via plastic skylights

Well, from what I gather, no one has encountered this problem before. I guess that's the best I'll get, thanks anyway.

Persistent smell from new GRP roof via plastic skylights

Pictures of what? I can't get up on the roof to check. I'm sorry I posted with this kind of reply...

Persistent smell from new GRP roof via plastic skylights

So you are saying there is nothing wrong with the roofing work but it will smell horribly for the next couple of weeks...months...years? It is most definitely not getting better. By the way, we also found out that the worst of the smell is coming from the stack pipe area around/behind the...

Persistent smell from new GRP roof via plastic skylights

We're renting a house and after a leak from the ceiling the landlord finally agreed to replace the 20+ year old flat roof. Once the rotten wood came off and the roofers started applying the resin, the resin smell drifted into the two rooms that have plastic skylights and 2 weeks later, it is not...

Divan drawer broken - worth repairing? And where?

JohnD, mattylad, thank you for the recommendations! All good ideas, I'm a bit more confident about trying to repair this now. I'll try to find a carpenter first and if not, I'll try one of the other solutions. Shame to have to replace the base because of a single drawer...

Divan drawer broken - worth repairing? And where?

So I've overloaded one of my divan drawers and it finally gave up the ghost. About a year ago one of the runners twisted badly and it was difficult to pull/push the drawer. Today I pulled on it and the front panel came off. Don't think I can fix it myself...but is it even worth trying to find...

Soundproofing a sliding glass door in a rental flat

Thanks everyone. foxhole - yes, sliding doors + bass sound seem to be the worst of both. Already have wooden blinds and curtains (which at least reduce heat loss if nothing else. ronniecabers - I agree glass would be the best option - we had incredibly effective secondary glazing on a window in...

Soundproofing a sliding glass door in a rental flat

Hello everyone, The bedroom in our (private) rental flat has a glass sliding door facing a street and a pub. It can be loud but the worst thing is the bass frequency/engine revving noise coming from somewhere in the evening, which can last all night. It's not a loud sound but it does sound like...

Moths - get rid of carpet/close gap between built-in dresser and concrete floor

Yep, still there. The landlord doesn't want to deal with it right now, so not much we can do about it at this point.

Moths - get rid of carpet/close gap between built-in dresser and concrete floor

Update - filled the gap under the cupboard with some Polyfilla and the number of moths definitely went down. Put up moth papers in cupboards and drawers, put clothes in bags. Vacuuming all the time, especially corners. Insecticide powder is still in the room corners, will vacuum up today. The...

Moths - get rid of carpet/close gap between built-in dresser and concrete floor

Thanks, JobAndKnock, this seems comprehensive. One thing I'm worried about is that this is a child's room and I'm not too comfortable with all the chemicals involved, although we have already sprayed the carpet thoroughly (and used powder). We have a Rentokil surveyor coming in today, although...

Moths - get rid of carpet/close gap between built-in dresser and concrete floor

The carpet square under the cupboard seems quite tightly wedged in - I think I might have difficulty pushing it in...will see what I can do. As I mentioned, the landlord won't take charge although he does reimburse us (not for the effort it takes to find/manage the handymen though!)

Moths - get rid of carpet/close gap between built-in dresser and concrete floor

They seem to be eating the carpet. The cupboard has clothes in it but we've gone over the entire thing twice and there's no sign of them (yet)...

Moths - get rid of carpet/close gap between built-in dresser and concrete floor

Thanks, I'll see what I can find in Screwfix - I've never used sealants before so not much experience there. In regards to the baseboards, I know what you mean - unfortunately it doesn't look like it can get removed easily - it looks like there is a square (or at least 2 sides/corner) of...

Moths - get rid of carpet/close gap between built-in dresser and concrete floor

The landlord is aware but will not do or suggest anything unless we do it ourselves, according to our 4 year experience in the flat. Not sure I understand re: the baseboard - there is a baseboard that only goes up to the cabinet and then the cabinet itself is built in. There does seem to be a...

Moths - get rid of carpet/close gap between built-in dresser and concrete floor

We live in a rented flat and have recently started having problems with carpet moths in one of the rooms. There is 100% fitted wool carpet everywhere, so perfect for them. When trying to find the nest we noticed what looked like rice grains near the fitted/built-in cupboard/dresser and pulled up...

Bleach marks on steam room wood rack

Sanded the bench yesterday - used rough grain sandpaper (about 100-grade), which removed all the stains, followed by 240-grade to smooth the bench out. Dusty work but at least the stains are gone! :D

Bleach marks on steam room wood rack

Thanks - I'd hoped I could fix it but bleaching the entire rack/bench would seem to be too much trouble. The brown water seems to be coming from the wood rather than screws though. It's a rental flat so I'm not sure what's been installed.
