    Grants vortex combi

And the public think all Gas Safe card holders have the same skills, and their rates can be simply compared, a bit like the looking up the price of a Samsung TV on the internet. This is why it isn't so.

replacing my thermal store and boiler…Help in specifying

Two thoughts; - I assume BG will come back till they've got it right? - Never heard of a Vaillant 924

    Grants vortex combi

A boiler tech who can't do controls is no use to anyone. Why would you call an electrician, most know nothing about boilers and controls. You are just setting yourself up for two bills rather than one.

    Hot Water Cylinder Recommendations

RM cylinders are bargain basement stuff, their vented cylinders are rough. ThermaQ are interestingly owned by a similar group of people to RM Cylinders; and RM came out of Range cylinders. They have only been trading for 2 yrs. Personally, i would avoid anything that was linked to RM or...

Oil pipe buried under concrete path

There aren't legally enforceable rules in the oil domain in the same way as there are for the gas industry. Therefore if your original installer wasn't OFTEC registered there is little you can do other than involve Building Control or trading standards. And the tape is not meant to be laid...

Vaillant Ecotec Pro 28 Water only Lukewarm, HELP!

Aha. A quick and dirty job. Government schemes have quality standards. Ministers will tell you how their PAS2030 standard and auditing of all the companies carrying out this work means it is to the highest standard; indeed, I've heard them say so on Radio 4 a few times. Sadly, like most...

    Mistral Oil Combi Boiler

If you like the idea of an oil combi and have had one before, then why not? The Mistral is unusual in having an immersion heater, but this is not rocket science. A bit like their web site, it's worth around £17.00. Oil combis are generally less reliable than their standard heat only versions...

Valliant boiler no hot water unless heating is on

A radiator is just a steel (usually) box full of water. There is usually scant economical benefit in changing a radiator. You could save there. Pricing a boiler swap is like me asking you to price me a typical new kitchen. There are too many variables pertinent to your house.

    Central heating in new build

I agree that an ASHP might be good with underfloor heating. However, no ASHP salesmen ever mention that you can't usually heat your stored HW when the Central Heating is on. You can't get an ASHP combi boiler. There is also the noise issue in rural locations. Regarding price volatility of...

Fernox sell a different product to dissolve limescale, called DS3. Servicing the boiler won't make any difference unless the burner pressure is out.

    Evohome question

It depends. If you use a Y87RF for a zone, the other rads outside this zone could all be fitted with HR92 rad valves. You would not have a zone valve under Evo control with further Evo rad valves downstream on that same motorised zone valve. Basically, if you do not put all the house under...

Glow worm hideaway boiler possible kettling help

It's an old boiler and is probably full of limescale. When this happens some parts of the heat exchanger get much hotter, quicker, than other parts. The design was intended to get uniformly hot all over. Ultimately this differential temperature will cause thermal stresses enough to write...

    Central heating in new build

I believe Building Regulations are different in Scotland, but there is no ban on oil fired heating in the UK. Quite the opposite, sales of oil fired systems are higher than they have been for years. The British public have started to realise that 'renewables' don't work quite as well as they...

    Evohome question

You would need in scenario (1) a WiFi Base kit, plus two Y87RF thermostat kits. In scenario (2) you would need the WiFi Base kit and enough HR92 radiator controllers to do every radiator and towel rail in the house - plus, we would change one valve on each radiator for Honeywell's V120/15a...

    Computherm Q7 RF wireless thermostat

Replacing a CM927 with a Computherm is like replacing a Mercedes with a Wartburg. The design would look in keeping with any modern house - from the 1970s. Still, you can't buy cheaper, Mr Falkirkbairn.
