    Merry Christmas Day !

The Trolley/Go Kart you refer to, we called them 'steeries' in Liverpool. With so many houses damaged and abandoned after the war, and houses being demolished for new buildings, we were never short of long boards for the main body and cut down others for the wheel members. Wheels were fairly...

    Inheritance Tax

To get a POA in either cases, you will need proof/testimony from medical experts that your father is mentally unable to realise the consequences of his decisions, both over his health and over handling his financial affairs. One potential problem is that, if he is deemed cognizant in one of...

    Socket circuit tripping

Which basically means looking for evidence of rodent activity. i.e. mice or rat dropping, teeth marks in cables, (if you are lucky, you may even find the culprit still attached to the cable by it's jaws). If you do find evidence of cables having been chewed, you will probably need to replace...

    What are you drinking tonight?

We're having Christmas dinner down the road tomorrow. My wife has a crumbling thumb base and is waiting for an operation to rebuild it. She had a date to get it done, (7th of December), but she insisted on cancelling it to look after me during this cancer business. When she has it done it will...

Should I repair or replace my slate roof

But because the flash band has been applied OVER the upper tiles it could be running under the tape and then down the roof trusses till it reaches the bottom where it drops off and enters the wall/ceiling. When water breaks through, and creates a damp patch, the entry point is often further away...

    Bath waste puttied in

Get a pipe wrench pliers around it and see if it will turn and push free. If it does, then remove it completely and start cleaning the gunge off. Hard stuff tends to chip away. Sticky stuff may need some sort of solvent like white spirit or meths.

    Carpentry/maintenance job in hospital

Got to get through the application/interview stage first and they may ask for evidence of what you have done in the past. I once applied for a maintenance job that was going to be created in the near future. Had to show all my qualifications. including GCE's, apprenticeship indentures and...

Cooker oven tripping MCB - how to troubleshoot?

Did your electrician disconnect the mains from the cooker and test the various elements of the cooker separately? Did s/he use a standard multi-meter or a proper tester, Usually a much bigger piece of equipment compared to a multi-meter which is about the size of a standard iPhone. If you are...

What are you off over Christmas?

I volunteered to be on 'standby' over Christmas Day/Boxing Day many years ago. So, no alcohol after Christmas eve until the day after Boxing Day. Gets to just after 6pm on Boxing Day and I thought, "Nobody is going to call now", so cracked a can open and took a swig. 'Ring, ring,' goes the...

Have no trouble with Amazon deliveries, however, ordered a garden parasol from somewhere, (wife ordered so not sure but not Amazon), and was informed DPD would deliver between 11.30am and 12.00pm on Tuesday, (yesterday). Nothing had arrived by 3.00pm so wife phones DPD and was told driver had...

    Girl X and Boy Y.

Will be a life sentence, but does anyone really know what a life sentence is? It seems to vary enormously between case to case. My personal view, (taking into account there is no death sentence), is that minimum should be 30 years, regardless of how horrific it is, and then scaled upwards from...

What could be the fault. Carbon monoxide!

But surely to register you have to show proof that you are a qualified gas engineer? To gain access to the Combustion Chamber on here You have to show proof which, I am sure they check before allowing you in. Electricians, (as far as I am aware), have to show their qualifications and also have...
