    Kitchen hood extract shutter noise

I put in a new 6" duct from a 900mm cooker hood to outside and fitted a multi flapped wall vent cover like this one http://www.tlc-direct.co.uk/Products/BGBD6W.html It flapped like mad in any sort of wind at all, I tried damping it with draught foam and although that made the sound less...

    Kitchen Renovation

Looks like the kitchen cupboard brick wall was holding up the joists on the edge of the stairs/landing. I take it the studwork is there to hold it up now? Did you get a builder/structual engineer to ok the removal of that wall? Result looks good, good luck with the rest of the work.

    Kitchen cabinet fitting advice.

I think the poster meant pre drilled in the base unit. The brackets most likely are drilled and even slotted on one hole I guess. I made my own brackets as I thought the supplied ones too flimsy. Here is a pic of a base unit for the gas hob with 2 brackets drilled to the wall. The back...

Which kitchen units on a budget

Thanks for the replies, Darren what glass company was that you ended up using? I take it you are happy with the glass from them? We are looking for 900 x 780mm so not a lot different to yours, but in bright red. Its either that or stick with the black laminate I have there atm. I may see...

Cutting a reversible hearth panel for gas fire

I recently cut one using a jig saw with a metal cutting (fine tooth) blade with no chipping out. I really didnt want any chips or marks so masked up the sheet where I was to cut it and pencil marked the line on the tape. Put a chip board under the sheet and another on top but back far enough...

Which kitchen units on a budget

Feb 6. Right its finishing touches time and I need some suggestions please. I cut down a 4mm sheet of black granite laminate for a splashback, but cant make up my mind if it looks good or not, the alternative is 0.9mm stainless steel with folded edges on a 7mm MDF backing board. I could...

Which kitchen units on a budget

Well time for a big update, I have added dates when bits were done. I cut all the cornice and pelmet mitres with my sliding mitre saw, had to make a jig to join them using mitremate as that stuff goes off in 10 seconds or less and trying to do it freehand was just too tricky for me. Anyway...

Homebase kitchen part-but what is it for?

Door and drawer for dishwasher came connected together, I have joined the under sink ones using stainless pins by drilling the bottom of the drawer and top of the door. The under counter fixed appliances have accessable 13amp switched sockets in units next to them for local isolation for...

Homebase kitchen part-but what is it for?

I did say "near" done  The double oven is waiting to go in after the worktops have been cut, the gas hob and sink unit are also waiting on the worktop. Dishwasher is in already, second unit from the left under the window. Just need to trim some off the plinth for the dwasher door to...

Homebase kitchen part-but what is it for?

Cheers, its near finished now, but I may find a use for the parts on the tall oven unit filler panel once the oven is in.

Which kitchen units on a budget

Got a bit more done on this project. The 900mm hood has a 150mm extract outlet and my biggest core drill is 127mm, so not wishing to buy a new core drill for 1 hole I elected to suffer a bit of arm ache by cutting the inner hole with a pad saw Its plaster and soft block so not too hard to...

Homebase kitchen part-but what is it for?

Homebase kitchen suppliers are Interior Solutions who are Magnet and supply Wicks as well. I think the support bloke at Interior Solutions had a script and that question just wasnt on it

Homebase kitchen part-but what is it for?

Cheers Coljack, I dont have a tall larder unit but I do have a tall oven housing with a small filler panel that you cut to size to fill the gap between oven and top door, it must be for use there. The oven's not fitted yet so Ive not tried to fit that part yet. :)

Homebase kitchen part-but what is it for?

No real wood worktops, doest sound likely to be any of the other suggestions. I did consider it as a gap maintainer but the space is twice what my other units currently have so it would look odd. Any more suggetions anyone?

Homebase kitchen part-but what is it for?

Ok I feel a little stupid posting this but as I just phoned the suppliers and they dont know, I thought it worth a post here. I must have taken them from a packet along the build but put them to one side and just found them again. I have 2 of them 20mm wide and 50mm long with 2 csunk screw...

Which kitchen units on a budget

Well its getting there slow but sure. Quite a lot still to do, here's a couple of grainy pics I took last night. The 6" bend on the hood looks like a ships vent shaft, need to buy/borrow a 152mm core drill for that as my largest is 127mm. The black sheet on the left is a...

    New gas hob pipework connection

DP the copper has no joints, just one 2mtr straight length. You are going to have to expand on the some please. Last year I had new copper gas pipe run through the house and through 2 cavity walls and these were sleeved with plastic pipe, sealed one end and a gas safety cert issued. From...

    New gas hob pipework connection

I am installing new kitchen units and I am not ready yet to choose and instruct a gas safe fitter to connect the (4 burner) hob gas line but could do with some advice on what is usually practicable for a fitter. I have installed a straight run of new 15mm copper behind the units from the...

Which kitchen units on a budget

Dont buy kitchen units from Homebase, unless you want to build them blind. The instruction sheets with each carcass are generic to cover a multitude of differing uses and fail in the main to help you if you ordered anything other than a basic unit with 1 shelf. The kitchens are actually...
